Montana vs. Montana State

Southern Utah vs. Northern Arizona

I'm going to support Satan in the Brawl, only because I think we get more benefit from Montana State missing the playoffs than we do from UM getting a loss. MSU has been following us around the recruiting trail and even flipped a commit last year. I'd like recruits to see that one of these two programs makes it in the playoffs, while one does not. Go Griz.

As for the other, I'd like to see Southern Utah win and make it in. Their program is sort of where we were a couple of decades ago; they have poor fan support and facilities, and winning would really give them a boost towards credibility. Plus, NAU is sort of a sleeping giant. They have the infrastructure to become a power player in the Big Sky, and I'd rather see them not get any momentum. Go T-Birds.

Excellent analysis, Dopa. Ideally, the Griz would be sent to the other side of the bracket to do some damage. However, a meeting with them in Cheney would be heaven-sent for our program, theirs, and FCS football.

I think Montana has this one. Unless the flu bug hits them harder, they should be able to handle MSU. I think their record against each other the last 25 years is 21-4? Montana has the running backs and quarterback to spread MSU out, just like we did. Also, Montana has a decent defense, despite the hole we blew through it. They should be able to hold MSU to below 30. Also, Montana is peaking while MSU is sputtering out. I just can't foresee MSU winning this one.

I like SUU, for similar reasons as Dopa. I don't mind if NAU becomes a powerhouse, the Big Sky needs to get its rep back. I haven't followed NAU too hard, because we haven't played them this year. My gut feeling tells me that NAU comes up with the win, just because SUU feels like such a mediocre team to me. In this case, I don't think my gut feeling counts for much. :twocents:

Montana finishing 10-2 helps our resume and the conference's toward seeding. And I agree that if they got sent to Fargo would have at least a punchers chance at tripping up the Bizon.

Agreed on SUU and also so 4 BSC teams get in.

UM is going to completely dismantle MSU. As much as I hate to say it I'm pulling for the griz because they will represent the big sky well and probably win a game or two. The way MSU fell apart, I don't think they could beat Bozeman High School. The griz need to put them out of their misery.

I'm pulling for NAU because they could do some playoff damage until they reach us.

I would really like to beat PSU by 40 but they always play us tough.

Most if all, I'm rooting for South Dakota to beat NDSU (yeah right I know) and Tennessee Martin to beat EIU. Home playoff runs are a lot of fun.

I think the Cats will get in a 24 team field with 7 wins which is where I think they will end up. They have been overrated for the last two years so I don't know why it will change now.
I also think NAU is in even if they lose. So if SUU wins they have a possibility of making it as well. I can see the BSC having 5 teams in a 24 team field, and that would be a good thing.
The question is how long will we all last. It does not look good if we get 5 teams in and 4 of the five are out by the 2nd round.
We'll have to save the day by bringing home the big trophy...again :thumb: .

Montana has to be the softest 2 loss team in FCS, and I think the Bobcats give them their A game on Saturday. Think I'll be rooting for MSU on this one. Tough to ever root for the Griz!

SUU and NAU are a bit of a tossup for me. I'll support NAU for a reason previously stated that they may be most capable of an early round upset that may benefit the Eags later.

I think both home teams (SUU and MSU) win...I think MSU wins big, just my opinion, but no way DM and Kirk go out losing to the Griz. Plus the Griz haven't beaten anyone with a winning record (besides Liberty) since 2011, it won't start on Saturday...MSU by 17, SUU by 14...

The best thing about controlling your own destiny is that you don't have to root for anyone but the Eags. Just win, baby!

I don't see any chance of Montana State making it in at 7-5. I'm pretty well certain they'll be in at 8-4, but no way can they drop their last 3 and still make the field.

FWIW, I think the playoffs have expanded too much that there is a high probability of 3 teams (or more) with 4 losses making it into the playoffs. I didn't like moving from 16 to 20, but I'll admit it worked out pretty well. I really think 24 is too many teams.

I agree with reading on Sports Network that a sub 500 team will likely get in because of the auto birth . . .makes me frustrated and not seem as special.

24 teams is too many, those lower tier and bubble teams dont really have a chance. Since 2009 only one non-seeded (top 5 until this year) has even made the chipper and that was Sam Houston last year. There is a big drop off in talent after the top 8-10 teams...

I agree with you, but I just wanted to say, on the flip side, many teams on the cusp of becoming a great squad will get one more week of practice and 1-2 more games of experience that they normally wouldn't get. If bubble teams such as SUU get in, it will do that much more to strengthen the conference.

Still think that there are too many teams, but that little thought helped me feel better about it.

I love the expanded playoffs simply because it means more football. You're also gonna see some phenomenal opening round and 2nd round match ups. The other part I like is that a bubble team like UNI that suffered through a ton of injuries earlier might squeak in and do some serious damage now that they seem to have righted the ship. The same can be said for talented 3 and four loss teams from power conferences, forced to play two FBS games in a season.

Heaven forbid we might end up in those latter two scenarios in the near future, but if we do, I will welcome the opportunity to watch my eagles play an extra game or two or three...

Montana/Montana State.Too bad they can't both lose.
SUU/NAU. Feel good story for SUU.

So true...since one has to win, the lesser of two evils would be MSU. I want UM to have to travel someplace uncomfortable, so they have a long plane, or maybe in their case, bus ride back across the country.

Gotta root for SUU....cinderella story.
