Why cant this team put opponents away?

Why do we always get large leads and then squander them away?

Where is this team's killer instinct?

I wont take anything away from UVU, they are a good team, but when we get up by double didgits you dont ease up on the gas you put the pettle to the floor and grind them into the ground.

You are really going to complain about a 25 win team? CHILD PLEASE!! Maybe you should come back to reality a little bit and be thankful to be able to watch a damn good team in a DAMN good arena. :twocents:

I don't think they let up last night - UVU hit some great shots and 3's that got them back into the game quickly.
Weber missed some open shots that they usually make.
Give UVU credit and their guard (#2) for making some great plays to get back into the game. Personally, I think UVU's guard #2 was a great player and kept them in the game.

Isiah Williams is a great player. Geddes Robinson is a good player (didn't have a great game), & Keith Thompson played well.

UVU's team this season could have placed 4th or 5th in the Big Sky this year.

I have the same question, and I don't see it as complaining. It's a legitimate concern and I would go so far as to say it's the reason we're not in the dance this year--we just couldn't hold it together when it was critical.

Yes, I'm happy with the wins we got this season, but this team is way too talented to have these meltdowns. Even in games where we managed to eke out the win, we made it wayyyy closer that it ever needed to be because we'd turn double-digit leads into nailbiters.

Rahe even acknowledged at one point during the season that the team had difficulty playing an entire game of solid basketball. So we're back to the question--why can't we maintain the intensity and the killer instinct for a full 40 minutes?

I am not complaining about them winning games, I just dont see the killer instinct in the players when they get up big, it's like they relax and then the other team makes a run, UVU was a good team, but I dont think they should have hung on so close with us.

Weber won...on to Round 2!!

Not to take anything away from UVU. But this game meant a whole lot more to them, than it did to the Cats. You could tell in our teams body language, and how they would lose focus routinely during the game. UVU came to play and put it all out on the line (I was being somewhat of a catcat {doosh} to their squad before the game). This, to them, was their NCAAs. A lot of their players were overlooked and under appreciated by other DI programs, and they wanted to put an exclamation mark on their season. They weren't going to just roll over and let Weber beat them. Also, got to be impressed with their coach. Hunsaker really gets the most out of his players. He finds gems in the most unlikely places. Granted, UVU's poor academics helps, but nonetheless, it is hard to believe that UVU has players like Geddess Robinson, Isaiah Williams, and Ben Aird (By the way...Weber totally missed out on that one? He is a beast in the blocks, can shoot from outside, and has a nose for rebounding.). Regardless, Hunsaker finds them and molds them into good, solid, teams. This isn't UVU's first 20 win season. I'm shocked that NAU or MSU isn't taking a good hard look at Hunsaker.

I think Hunsaker's personality...may have something to do with his lack of marketability.

Yep, he can be quite the cactus at times, but he is an excellent coach who tells it the way he sees it. Just what Montana State needs. Huse's players are soft.
