Why Can't We Break a Full Court Press???

I will preface this by saying I love Coach Rahe and I think we have some good Asst. Coaches. But why can't our team break a Full Court Press/Trap??? It seems to be our achilles heel now and at some times in the past also.

We were up by 20 at NAU and they started Pressing/Trapping us and we had turnover after turnover. NAU nearly came back in that game. Sac St. was also Pressing/Trapping us with some success. With that kind of result and scouting reports we'll see it the rest of the season.

We have quick guards who can handle the ball well. But it seems when another team throws full court against us they panic and start maddeningly turning over the ball. It drives me crazy!!!!

Just get the ball up the center of the court already! (off my soapbox...)

Big games this week! Let's Do It Weber!!!!

This continues to bother me as well.

It seems to be that we're too interested in setting up our half-court offense instead of making teams pay for pressing. We often have good numbers when we get by the press, as other teams scramble to get back on defense, and we just back the ball out and start our half-court passing game. If we broke the press and really made teams pay for using it by going hard to the basket, I think they'd quit using that ploy.

What troubles me most is that we are more athletic than any of the teams in the Sky, but pressing and then watching us play half court, it just neutralizes our athleticism. Bugs me...

I've never seen a Randy rahe offense break a press so I am beginning to think he just doesnt know how. Me and you can pass the ball back and forth! :ohno:

You are so correct. I have said the same thing before. All of the BSC teams do it to slow us down. They are afraid of us in the open court because of all the athletes we have so to neutralize us they apply a press. Since they know we aren't going to attack it they can slow us down with it. If we ever decided to start attacking teams who press us we could run most out of the gym and better then that they won't be able to apply that 2/3 zone that we also seem to struggle with. Attack Wildcats Attack we are too deep and too athletic not to.

This drives me nuts too!! Even with Lillard at the point the coaches didn't seem to have a clue on how to beat the press. With the amount of quick athletic guys we have on this team it should be a non issue but it seems to be our Achilles heel year in and year out.
