• Hi Guest,

    We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

    With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.
  • Hi Guest, want to participate in the discussions, keep track of read/unread posts and more? Create your free account and increase the benefits of your eGriz.com experience today!
  • Guest, do want an ad free experience on BigSkyFans.com among other benefits? Upgrade your account today!

    Simply click your profile name > account upgrades > BigSky Club > choose between the year long subscription (two free months) or month to month

    Thanks for the continued support. Cheers!

Why I joined the forum

Webergrad02 was kind enough to welcome me to the board and asked a few questions. I wrote a response and then thought maybe I should make it a new topic, so here goes:

Roy,

Welcome to the fan board. It would be nice if you posted an actual message and didn't just post a link to your stories. Is this a new seo strategy by the paper to link your stories to message boards? It would be nice if you would share some of your insights to the team. You are closer than most of us are.

Thanks, Webergrad02, it's good to be here.

The Wildcats looked calm and confident last night in Bozeman; maybe they caught a second wind somehow because Randy Rahe thought they looked tired two days earlier but praised their energy and toughness on Saturday.

I hope you'll check out the story again, I've updated it with postgame video from Jordan Richardson, Richaud Gittens and Rahe (watch for a cameo by Dev Berry, it was pretty funny): http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/02/22/weber-state-gets-back-track-cruises-past-montana-state" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As for joining the board, I'd call it a strategy by me to increase views on our Weber State coverage -- pretty similar to what I'm doing on Twitter (@RoyBurtonSE and @RoyBurton). I think I'll enjoy getting to know Wildcats fans here on the forum and sharing what insights I can (I'll be reading for your insights as well), but I'm going to be upfront that my goal is to get as many of you as possible to check out our features, game stories, videos, slideshows, etc., at Standard.net.

I might be preaching to the choir here, but since you're all gathered here online on this board to talk about the Wildcats anyway, I hope you'll enjoy the coverage. I've been trying to add a few extras, like this pregame video I did with Randy on Saturday (http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/02/22/gameday-wildcats-bobcats-clawing-big-sky-position" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and this one with Coach A in Cedar City (http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/02/13/former-weber-state-coach-ron-abegglen-breaks-down-wsusuu-matchup-and-makes-predic" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), and I'm going to keep experimenting to see what else I can do that will get you to click through and help make Weber State sports stories the most-read on our website.

In case you missed them, here are some of the features we've done on Wildcats basketball and football this year.

Davion Berry: http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/01/22/weber-states-davion-berry" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Kellen McCoy: http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/01/29/coach-kellen-mccoy-weber-states-little-big-man" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

James Hajek: http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/01/17/tarp-incident-weber-state-center-spent-summer-raptors" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I did a couple of stories on the Dee Events Center and WSU athletics for the school's 125th birthday: http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/01/07/dee-iswas-player-be-purple-palace-full-entertainment-sports-memories" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

New football coach Jay Hill: http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/02/04/top-cat-new-weber-state-football-coach-jay-hill-brings-big-goals" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Joel Bolomboy (column by Jim Burton): http://www.standard.net/stories/2014/01/20/rebounding-gift-bolomboy-boon-wildcats" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One of the rare times I've focused on a WSU opponent in a story, asking why a team would show up to take a 71-point walloping and be grateful for the privilege: http://www.standard.net/stories/2013/12/17/wildcats-bury-st-kats" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I did this one on Damian Lillard after going to a Trail Blazers' game in Portland after watching Weber State football at Portland State earlier in the day: http://www.standard.net/stories/2013/11/28/lillard-making-his-name-nbas-global-game" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Welcome Roy. You see things behind the scenes that we don't see. I know you have to be careful about what you post on here. But it would be good to get your perspective sometimes.
