Why would Rahe leave Weber?

Coach Rahe is a good coach and a class act and I hope he stays here for the long haul, but questions such as "when will Rahe move on to bigger and better" and "why would he stay at Weber" show a total disrespect for Weber and belittles the program. After reading Brad Rock's article in the DNews http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700010961/Rahe-is-Webers-secret-weapon.html I was steaming mad. Suggesting Weber is "a broom closet (OK, a quiet back room)" that any good coach will sooner or later leave shows a total lack of respect for this program. I'm biased, but with the tradition and facilities Weber provides, what should be being asked is "Why would Coach Rahe leave Weber?"

I read this, this morning and felt the same way. Rock is a joke.

He completely belittled WSU. You read the Trib article, and they call the crowd "ROARING" last night. So which is it Rock, you jacka$$.

Come on Rock, if the crowd was a little quieter than normal it's because we were up by 30.

At least mention the good part of the article:

Asked about the interest that will arise from other schools, Rahe said, "I don't know if there's any interest there — but I appreciate it. But I love it here. My family loves it here. I'll just reiterate what I've told people throughout the last couple of years is that president (Anne) Milner and the administration took a chance on me four years ago when I was a nobody. They hired me and gave me an opportunity when nobody else would, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be at Weber State."

I agree there were good things in the article, but most, if not all, of the good things were quotes from Rahe. Of course those were good. Coach is a class guy who is sincerely grateful for the chance he was given to coach at Weber. But most of Rock's comments and the idea he was pushing that Weber is not worthy of such a good coach pissed me off.

actually if that was what he was getting at i would have to agree with him, im a die hard fan of wsu but i would definiately hhave to say that weber state, the city of ogden, and our community are not worthy of having mac and rahe. i hate to say that and i wish we could pack our stadiums as we owe them big time.

rahe and mac are great coaches that provide a great product to wsu. our community and university do not support them in the way the deserve. mac and rahe are entitled to more than they are getting. i just hope things can improve. i also hope we can keep these coaches at weber, keep them happy, continue to give them raises.

the joe cravens money is now available. i hope wsu does something smart with it like give it to the wizard!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weber State hurts themselves. End of story... the opportunities and potential are there for fan growth, but there isn't enough intiative on campus to get the work going.

APATHY.... Thats the mission statement of Weber State
LAZY...Mission Statement of WSUSA

Give me a program that might be hiring within the next five years that would offer a better situation than what Weber could offer coach Rahe? (And don't give me no PAC10 or BIG12 schools. He ain't making that kind of jump from Weber.) I think that we are too negative sometimes. Weber, at least in basketball, is a solid program that most coaches would dream of coaching. Good tradition, good facilities, and a fan base that is too often not fully appreciated. I agree, the attendance could be better, but Weber draws almost double what any other conference school draws and considering the size of the cities they are located in, not much worse than Utah draws. Looking around at the games I attend, I see a lot of older individuals who have been loyal fans since the early days. And with continued success, the attendance will grow. Winning, of which Rahe has proven he can provide, is the best marketing tool available.

Sorry, I started a thread and realized there was one already in place. Here are my comments
Take a read of this article (be ready to hold your nose):

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700010961/Rahe-is-Webers-secret-weapon.html?pg=2

Weber gets so little press compared to BYU and UofU...Why is it that every article ends up being about Coach Rahe moving to a new program? I think the writers consider them self prescient ( a big word, means having a foreknowledge of events) and want to be able to say "In Feb 2010 we said this."

Can't they write about the success of the team, the quality kids and coaches and the desirability of Weber as a place to go to school and to play? Why is it that they always figure the coach has to want more $$, move to a bigger school/conference. etc.? Most of the time a move to a new position means replacing a coach that was fired, recruits leaving, a couple years of getting kicked around and a lot of hard work. Why not stay with a program that you built, and develop a recurring success? Ogden is a great place to live, and with kids in school and a family established, who wants to up=root them for a lot of hard work and uncertainty? All for what?

I hope WSU is able to reward Coach Rahe and his assistants and keep them in place, for their benefit, the players and the fans.

Thanks for letting me rant...!

heyoh,

the salt lake papers do this everytime rahe wins the title. would be nice if they cold just do stories about the team's success.

u never see that from the ogden paper.

i think the salt lake papers try n print anything they can since there r two papers competing for stories.

the sltrib does quality articles but they r weekly at best. desnews is more dailey but lower quality.

ogden's standard.net is the best source but i know people like the des because of the no login user comments.
