Wide receivers

Hi there! Hope everyone is having a great summer but as August approaches and the Mariners fight for a playoff spot and the Seahawks start training camp I can only think about one thing! College football!
I thing EWU is poised for what could be a great or under achieving season. For a great season I think the Eags need a couple of things to happen. A big improvement in their defense (I've been hoping for that for the last five years) and who is going to step up at wide receiver? Last year after the big 3 graduated I thought nobody really solidified that position. Nsimba and Nick S. had some good games but here seemed to be a lack of consistency and that goes for all the receivers. I kept thinking who is going to be the next great wide receiver? Dre Dorton? Limu Jones? Zack Eagle? Terrance Grady? There were flashes but nothing cosistant. And there is one other! After watching him play in 2016 at NDSU in the overtime game I thought he was a lock for greatness! Can you guess who I thinking of? If you saw the game and after Kupp went out with an injury Stu Stiles had a monster game catching the ball in traffic but last year, Ziltch! I think I even heard he gave up football this year!

Well what do you guys think? Nick Sblendorio (I had to go look up how to spell that) might have been the most cosistant but now he's gone but we have even more names to throw into the mix!
Andrew Boston, Tre Weed (from Sumner H.S. right by me! He was always made the Saturday morning sports highlites!) Johnny Edwards, Jayson Williams (Junior he has the athletic build but he just hasen't excelleled yet)

P.S. I heard coach Best on ESPN 700 with guest Larry Weir (spelling?) go to 1:05:00

We haven't had anyone step up to fill the shoes of the Big 3 (Kupp, Bourne, Hill) yet. Honestly, that was one of my biggest disappointments from last season. You can be balanced all you want between run/pass, but our offense is and always has been predicated on great QB and WR play. It's who we are.

In terms of the up and comers, I do think there are a few. Limi-Jones and Grady will present big matchup problems for defenses if we use them correctly. Andrew Boston also fits into that category but I'm unsure of how much he's progressed his redshirt year. And then there's a whole slew of smaller, speedy guys who have big potential from the last couple of recruiting classes. We just need them to step up. Frankly, the number of dropped balls, mental mistakes, etc. last year was unacceptable. Hopefully we've grown substantially in this position from last year.

Good interview of Coach Best.
I am impressed with his knowledge and insights, it is up to his asst. coaches to get it done and his responsibility to see that it happens.
Go Eagles!!

I am very optimistic about our receivers going into fall camp. To me Nsimba Webster is a lot like Shaq Hill and I look for him to put up Shaq like number. Terrance Grady is a solid target IF he can stay healthy. If healthy I expect him to do big things this year. The player Im high on and he has shown flashes is Jayson Williams . I think he has all the tools to be a great one. Put in Zach Eagle, Dre Dorton and all the young talent and we should have a lot of competition at that spot to push the starters to be great.

The guy I still need to see things out of is Limu Jones. He has had the drop bug a little bit in Spring ball and at times is very undisciplined with his temper. If he can fix these things he is a freak athlete and could present serious problems for the other teams.

What about the TE's? They haven't been a big part of the offense but Ive heard they's like to use them more especially Gilder who finished the year with a two TD performance against PSU.

I second Jayson Williams. I also think that Xavier James could be a stud. He missed most (all?) of last season due to injury. If he can stay healthy, I can see him being productive.

We have been extremely spoiled in the receiving department in the last decade plus. No doubt last season fell a little short of the bar. I think this years crew will be a strength. There is a lot of versatility in the squad. I am envisioning red zone packs with Jones, Grady, Boston, Guilder, and Pierce. Speed packs with Webster, Dorton, Williams, James and Custer, with a mix of all of the above. A lot of folks on the roster have shown some flashes. What’s missing is that absolute beast that no one can stop. Also missing is a level of consistency as whole position group.

Combine this receiving crew with the depth we have at RB and I think we will see a lot of offense. The big question is will we have a defense that can give us a chance to win?

We have two of our WR who I think will not get much playing time, they both had surgeries earlier this year. #35 Roy Ebong and #82 Xzavier James, both had lowerer stomach surgeries. We are loaded with WR
Should #9 Andrew Boston get in the game he will have a great day. We are very well provided with WR. I feel bad naming our Players, but they are all damn great. I will tell all of you to judge for yourselves. Vic
