Will Basketball beat Football

By the End of the year, will our basketball attendance average be higher than last season's football average of 8,487?

Right now hoops sits at 6,512

I don't know about average attendance, but total attendance and internal revenue production beats football hands down. Without the two FBS games each year in football, football would drag the whole athletic program down. That is due to the relative expense of running a D1 football program. Back in the hayday of WSU basketball attendance, basketball would offset the loses we experienced in football. We haven't had that for a while, and have now put an emphasis on programs creating their own ballance sheet. Even the basketball team has a need to schedule 'money' games. The only reall answer to all of the talk about these situations is to get more attendance, interest and investment in our programs. It takes a lot of hard work to build these things. We lost at least one entire generation of future investors because of poor administration in the past. We are getting the students back now, and need to continue that process, in order to insure future investment. I will just say what I was told a long time ago, "If you are not part of the solution, you ARE part of the problem." There really is no middle ground. Get involved, invest, support, and be part of the solution.
