Will NAU be ranked on Monday?

It is a strange yr so far for NAU, at least for me. Its week 5 now and we dont know much about NAU and I'm not sure what to expect.

First you beat a DII
Then a big FBS
then a week off
then school the worst team

im still wondering...

and now finally what i consider 8 tough games to finish out the year.

im lookin forward to your game this week vs in-state SUU. SUU is pretty good team this year. But ill have to follow it on my cell phone as my game is at the same time.

Southern Utah U. played NAU tough last year in Flagstaff. Saturday's game will be no cakewalk.

I don't know SUU well enough to predict what they'll bring this year. Based strictly on what I saw last year, I expect a close game.

But I really don't know what to expect from NAU at this point either. Their three games have answered a few questions but leave a lot left to learn.

A big win vs. Division II Western New Mexico. I fully understand these types of games from both NAU's and WNMU's perspective but I tend not to like them.

A good effort for just over 3 quarters (down 7 a few minutes into the 4th quarter) vs. Arizona State University in Tempe. No shame at all in that effort.

A pasting of ISU that I had expected to be much closer. Don't think NAU is that much better than ISU...just think ISU had a particularly bad showing last Saturday.

From what I've seen and read, NAU's receiving corps isn't operating as smoothly as last year. Losing the top 3 receivers will do that. Lots of confidence in what Herrick brings to the team. Their offense seems to be balanced between the run and pass so far. NAU's defense is deeper this year than in the past with a particularly stout run defense. Will see if that changes vs. the likes of Taiwan Jones or Bryan Hilliard? *knock on wood* The big difference has been fewer season and career ending injuries early like last year. Lots of depth on the d-line and at linebacker. Lumberjacks are already down one starter (Watson) at corner due to a season ending knee injury.

If they hold court at home and win half of their remaining road games they end up 8-3 with one loss to an FBS team. I like those chances at a playoff bid. But it's much too far off to speculate on that yet. I predict the Big Sky Conference having more parity this year than in a long time. Every team has 1-3 losses and at least 1 win through 4 weeks. Have to say the best I've seen so far is Montana State's team. No team is invulnerable this year.

This is off subject but I'm a proponent of the Big Sky Conference adding Southern Utah U. if only to have a reasonably close (what....5 or so hour drive) rivalry in conference. That's something NAU hasn't ever had in the Big Sky.

And to answer your title of this thread, weberwildcat, no. The Lumberjacks aren't rated. Doubt they will be rated anytime soon. Lose both or one vs. SUU and EWU and they may not be rated the rest of the season.
