Willamette at PSU (Lewis and Clark)

I know it was a DIII opponent, but that was a pretty impressive performance last night considering we had three guys sitting.

Some thoughts:

- Too bad Canda didn’t get a chance to snag another rebound. It would have been neat to have both he and Hollins with double/doubles.

- A wise man once told me you don’t want your seven footer tossing up threes, which I generally agree with. Edwards is 4/6 (including the one exhibition game) so far this season. Looks like he went 0/2 in his three seasons at Gonzaga. I wonder if this is by design. We shall see.

- We were pretty darn tenacious on defense last night. 22 steals and 30 total turnovers. There were times when Willamette just could not get the ball down the floor on offense due to our pressure.

- My only gripe is free throws at 60%, but then we only had ten attempts. Although our free throws against UP were awful, so there’s that.

- Nice to not have anyone over 30 minutes last night, even with guys sitting. Depth!

- For only hitting 24% from beyond the arc last season, Mayhew’s three pointers are looking good so far. 6/12 (with the exhibition), which isn’t a ton of attempts, but his shot looks better this season and he’s looking pretty confident. Having a 10-15 minute a night guy that can consistently knock down the three ball will be key.

- Big test coming up against Riverside. First true road game for Peery, which as we all know, hasn’t been our forte over the years…
