Here's to no injuries and figuring out how things will go without McCaffrey for a half. :thumb:

After that, it'd better be Hubel minus Shaq and a good look at some of the three/four deep guys.

No offense to Willamette, but I hope we're up 45-0 at the half and can cruise with our 1's on the bench for the entire 2nd half.
 
I enjoy these games because hopefully we'll get to see guys that normally don't get a chance to play.

I would like to see Hubel get in and get some pass attempts. It's been a while. (I know it's a completely different offense, but the guy has gone for 600+ yards and 0 interceptions in a single game.) Not questioning Kavanaugh starting at all, just saying that Hubel has to be one of the most accomplished backups in the country.

Also, been waiting to see Willie Griffin play since I heard they were getting a guy who got some playing time for UW. Maybe he'll get some chances with Cory out.

Agreed with Hubel. It would be nice to see him get quite a few reps on Saturday.

Why are we playing another D3 team? If so, then it should have been Western Oregon (D2) and Linfield not SOU and Willamette.
 
Apparently there was a scheduling issue with a different team backing out, and Willamette signed with us at the last minute.
 
There is always some positives and negatives when playing a weaker team. Positive: You can play players that normally do not see a lot of play time, helping them gain the experience for the next season. You can try plays you wouldn't against a tougher opponent. You can rest your starters letting them be fresh for the next game. Team can regain confidence in themselves by successful plays and a large win.
Negative: Players/teams will play down to a weaker opponent, start playing the weaker teams game instead their own. Play sloopy ball. Not try as hard, coming into the game with the attitude that this will be an easy win. Weaker teams will play up to a stronger team and sometimes pull off a surprise, have seen it more than once.
I always had to set different goals for my teams to reach to keep them on track and motivate them when we played weaker teams. You definitely have to coach different with a weaker team if you are playing your starters. On the other hand, your non-starters will play up, they are definitely more hungry.
Just my point of view and experience.
 
Hopefully there won't be any injuries tomorrow, and we'll get out of the game with a win and some valuable playing time for the younger guys.

Great. Wade looks to have a pretty bad foot injury. :-(

Some comments on the game tonight:

Hubel: He's either an A or an F. Throws into triple coverage for an F, or floats a beautiful pass into the endzone for a TD for an A.

Shaq looked good. He's a small guy, but he seems to be a guy that can take a hit. Given his performance tonight and versus TCU, I think we have a good running back for the next couple of years.

Stripes on the helmet. CK and an O lineman had stripes. There could have been more. What's the deal?

Good to see Willie rush the ball a few times. Love to see a guy that puts his hat down at the end of a run and tries to run over a defender.

Duyndam should never, ever, ever, ever, ever throw another pass in his life. Let's just run him on the fake punts from now on.

Why do we have starters in on special teams in the mid-4th quarter? Risk factor is very high.
 
I was impressed with some of CK's passes today! Seemed to be a lot more passing than usual.

Game got boring real quick, but glad we got the W!

Bleh! I don't know what to make of a win like that against a non-scholarship school. We better play much better next week or it will be ugly.
 
It did get very boring after the first quarter. Instead of dominating, we sat on our lead and prety much stopped moving the ball.

Duyndum had that first down if he tried to run for it. And seriously, it's the fourth quarter of a money game; why are you going for a fake punt for a first down? Same goes for that 4th and 7 play in the same quarter.

Penalties. Again, there is no reason to do these. So please stop shooting yourselves in the foot, because Eastern will pick us apart next week if we keep getting flagged.

Shaq did a decent job last night. Had some good moves, and kept the ball moving. However, CK and Hubel were guilty of some really bad looking draw plays that lost 4-5 yards each. And that happened a good 5 times. Maybe we should do some pitches or handoffs instead of running a counter or dealy ever single rushing attempt.

Good to see CK actually pass the ball more than five yards down field. Haven't seen that kind of passing in years.

Overall, a good win in the books, but poor in terms of play. Hopefully we don't do this badly next week . . .
