PSU president takes sustainability message to Japan

http://www.oregonlive.com/environment/index.ssf/2009/10/portland_state_u_president_tak.html

Wim Wiewel, president of Portland State University, will visit Japan next week to discuss sustainability and to campaign to bring an electric car line to Portland.

Wiewel will open the week with a talk about the role of urban universities in sustainability at Hokkaido University in Sapporo. He also will meet with Sapporo officials to explore collaborations on sustainability and joint research projects with Sapporo, Hokkaido University and PSU.

In Tokyo, Wiewel will meet with the Shibusawa Foundation and Waseda University on a partnership to support curriculum development in Asian leadership.

Wiewel will join Portland Mayor Sam Adams and Charlie Allcock, director of economic development for Portland General Electric, at Mitsubishi Motors and Nissan Motors on Nov. 5. The group is pushing Portland as the site for the rollout of Mitsubishi's electric vehicles. Nissan already has chosen Portland for the rollout in late 2010 of its Leaf line of electric vehicles.
