I don't have anything good to say about the program Barnum runs down there at Puke State. Looked down their roster and it includes 31... three one transfers from JC's, Washington, UTEP, Nebraska and others.... Not sure who the impact players are out of that group. Mercenary U. Eastern has 6... only three are seeing any playing time: Graham, Justis Warren and Mason III (WR) This may be part of the reason PSU routinely plays so maliciously against the Eagles. Seems like a classic case of penis envy.

Another contrast is the number of coaches/other. Puke State lists 16 and Eag's shows 12 They do have a special teams coach listed. :ohno:

This is a HUGE game. A couple of stats that stood out PSU has nearly double the amount of penalties, looking forward to that keeping drives alive for the offense and getting stops for the defense... Assuming the ref's know what holding is this week ;-) They also put the ball on the ground 3 to 1 to Eastern. Beyond that I don't know what they do well. Average 27 points a game, bottom half in most other categories for the BigSky. They do lead the league in punt return average and seem adept at creating TO's.

Expect a physical game. Eastern needs to play with their heads on a swivel and not be cowed by late hits, malicious play or verbal abuse. Bow up and put it right back in their faces.

Eastern 47 - PSU 27

Let's GO Eagles!!!

They can't have more than 12 coaches on payroll. The other 4 must be volunteers. 12 is the NCAA max... one head coach, 9 asst, and a couple of grad/intern types.

Good to know. A couple were grad asst's. Big game, assume you'll be in the stands? Will be there in spirit.

Eastern 33... two missed extra points, no field goals
PDX 13 ... 1 TD after a big run back and 2 field goals.
Would love to be in the stands ... anywhere BUT Portland

You would know clawman, I've never been there. The broadcasts never make it look very good. I hate closing the regular season against PSU every year.. Eags often have something to play for and Portland doesn't and my opinion is it makes them play ugly.

The venue at Hillsboro is small, but it's actually a nice place. The problem is that it's akin to Eastern playing their home games in Post Falls or something like that. Geographically, it's not that far from downtown Portland and the PSU campus, but it's the worst freeway in the area for traffic and it's at the fringes of urban Portland. You'd struggle to find a less convenient place in the Portland area to play games.

And yeah, without a doubt, traveling to Portland is an exercise is self-flagellation. It's a once beautiful city that has seen it's best days long past, and it now resembles an open pit landfill. I've traveled quite a bit, and a lot of developing countries have cities much nicer than Portland. Two pieces of good news, the Portland State campus is in the last remaining "nice" part of downtown, and Hillsboro is jus ta boring old suburb... no different than just about any suburban city anywhere. So you could, in theory, come to the game and avoid the miscreants.

Longish interview with Barnum. We all know PSU can be dangerous with their 31 transfers. Worth the 7 minutes. Barnum is focused on the youngsters on the team.

Sense a lot of superstition... There is no such thing.

Let's get pumped up Eags!!!

Portland State runs the kind of offense that gives us nightmares... a highly mobile QB with a lot of misdirection. They can be great, and can be awful. It'll be hypercritical for the defense to make a statement early. If we can keep them from gathering some momentum, we should keep their scoring down. If they're effective early, we might need to outscore them. They run a lot of stuff similar to Western Illinois who just kept scoring and scoring...

Offensively, we should be good enough to hang a lot of points on them. The weather forecast has bounced all over the place from dry and misty to raining heavily. I don't think any weather service has given any certainty to what we'll see for 3+ hours in the late afternoon. It would be huge to find a way to push them around, because it's likely going to be easier to run in whatever weather we see. Then again, we threw the ball well in fog that couldn't even be cut with a knife in NorCal, so who knows?

Portland was on the rocks way before Covid. The degradation of the city has been a decade-long process.

As for Cheney, you're right on that. I think Cheney's issues are easier to resolve. The loss of 2,500 students from the university has devastated the business community in Cheney. Hopefully, with good leadership, Eastern and Cheney can sort themselves out. I'm nowhere near as hopeful for Portland. Every business turning a profit is leaving downtown in favor of the *much* safer and cleaner suburbs.

I certainly would love to see this outcome today. The weather looks mild, no wind or rain so EB3 and cast can take them apart. Would love to see Eastern run the ball tough like they did to close the game last week. Pierce ended up with nearly 100 yards and the OL got better running as the game progressed.

Hope a big group of Eag fans made the trip today.
