WOU vs PSU

PSU women hung on to take Western Oregon 75-65 tonight, a game noted by the absence of Claire Faucher, their star point guard. Eryn Jones did an able job in her place, scoring 21 points while running the team, but it was a team that seemed to struggle all night, missing layups, stumbling into unnecessary turnovers. PSU led the entire game, sometimes but as many as 17, but that lead dropped to six at one point and eight at another. They couldn't put it away. Easy to understand why - it was a sick team, some of them running temperatures Murrell revealed after the game. And only two nights ago they played an exhausting game against UW. The two freshmen Lampman and Jackson put in long minutes doing outstanding defense work (PSU effectively ran an full court press most of the game) but their shooting was understandably shakey. Yankus did a great job under the net, picking up 19 points in layups and rebounding well. It was a flat team that ground out this victory. They'll have to play a lot better come Thursday and the tournament down at Eugene.

Faucher suffered a minor concussion in the game with Washington. Wade and Egwatue have H1N1, Marchant is still healing and Bishop has is running a low grade temperature. The team is now taking tamaflu and they hope to be well for Boise State. I have had H1N1 and cannot imagine playing basketball in such condition. Everything hurts.

All of those girls are in the first tier of folks who should have received vaccine...high risk age group coupled with travel, fatigue and a close contact sport. I don't really understand why they didn't make an effort to get these kids vaccinated. And yes I do know all the issues around vaccine availability but 20 somethings are winding up on ventilators.....healthy 20 somethings. Hope they feel better soon, it is not fun to have the flu and tamiflu does very little once the illness is fully present, have to take it at symptom onset.

I am about as high risk as one can be and could not get the vaccine. This is what happens when you put the government in charge of health issues. Rumor has it that Lexi is too sick to travel and that the team is rife with the H1N1. It makes little sense to play in these circumstances and they are only going to spread the virus. I don't know why they are not obeying CDC guidelines. This is one nasty virus.

Acutally the availability of the vaccine has less to do with govt and more with growing virus in eggs!! It just wouldn't cooperate and grow fast enough, no one to blame except chickens and virus! Keeping our team from playing would do nothing to halt the spread, it's done whether they travel or not....just should have been more proactive in obtaining doses.
