Why is this sad? I think this is great . . .the last time they had an overwhelming response and got great press for it too. Give alumni the opportunity to come to the game for free (I assume) and still gives the same kind of atmosphere.
I don't blame the students for not sticking around if they have no place to stay.
Although it's cool that they do this, having a place to stay is no excuse. The dorms are staying open through Sunday for those who want to stay and attend the game. This is finals week so its really only asking people to stay an extra 2-3 days.
Was not aware of that it is great that they are doing that for the students, but not to make excuses it is the holiday season and although I stuck around pretty much every winter while I was there for work. When I got done with finals I was out of there if I could needing a break. Remember these are YOUNG adults.
It's not at all uncommon for school bands to solicit alumni to fill in when school is not in session (whether before school starts or during holiday breaks) and I think it demonstrates strong support and school spirit that there's alumni out there willing to participate! For those that missed this tongue in cheek column that ran last week, enjoy the humor!
