WSU and Mission Scholarships

I was told by someone close to the situation that John L. canceled scholarships for most athletes that were serving missions when he arrived, except for a few 'special' players like Bo Bolen and Tanner Hinds. That is the reason why WSU had over 30 scholarships to hand out this season.

Please, don't mention that name anymore. He does not exist to me. If you must refer to him at all, refer to him as the 'Tea Bagger to the North', or some similarly disgusting acronym. :tothehand:

Yea, John L. was quite the classy guy. He wasn't a huge fan of Mac. He didn't like how he recruited. John L. did have 1 guy from his class go on a mission: Duncan Farnsworth. Jody, yes, had a lot of Florida recruits, but in his 1 class he had 9-10 (Chad Leckington had to have surgery and was advised to come home. He is a really good kid.) automatic mission kids. Even from Mac there were only a couple of guys out. Only one not to come back to Weber is Christopher Thee. Kamana and Kealakamia are both back and planning on playing. The reason why 30 scholarships were granted this year, was because 15 were automatic mission guys and there were a bunch of guys not coming back along with senior attrition. Normally a FCS program grants anywhere between 12-18 scholarships. That is what Weber did. Just added some more to show their commitment to specific athletes planning to serve missions right away. They can change their minds on their missions and often do. We all know how BYU doesn't recruit missionaries, right? Hill just wanted to tell these kids that he wanted them to return to Weber after their service commitments.
