Weber State University and Stephen F. Austin University will play a football home-and-home series in 2013 and 2014, WSU Athletic Director Jerry Bovee announced Wednesday.

The Wildcats will welcome the Lumberjacks to Stewart Stadium for the season opener on Aug. 31, 2013. Weber State will return the trip to Stephen F. Austin in 2014 when the two teams meet at Homer Bryce Stadium on Sept. 20, 2014. Stephen F. Austin is located in Nacogdoches, Texas and is a member of the Southland Conference.

“We’re looking forward to this series with Stephen F. Austin and are excited about our games with the Lumberjacks,” Bovee said. “With the ever changing landscape of college football it has been difficult to schedule games. We have wanted to schedule another home-and-home series with another FCS school and we feel this will be a great series for us.”

Weber State and Stephen F. Austin have never met in football. The Wildcats are 1-3 all-time against current members of the Southland Conference. WSU will begin a home-and-home series with McNeese State, also a member of the Southland Conference, this fall when the ‘Cats host the Cowboys Sept. 15 in the first home game of the season. WSU will return to McNeese State Sept. 21, 2013.

FCS schools are permitted to play 12 games in 2013 and 2014.

Love this, Im liking the games vs the Southland, next would be some games vs the MVC and maybe even the Southern

That leaves one game to be scheduled for 2013 (Sept. 7). Will it be the rumored Utah game? A non-conference slate of SFA, @ Utah, @ Utah St, and @ McNeese would be pretty damn tough. I can't believe I'm saying this, but a lower division home game would be OK with me instead of the Utah game. I can live with one lower division game in a 12 game year. And it would lighten up a brutal schedule some.

Yeah next year's schedule is gonna be brutal, I mean check out these road games

@ Utah State
@ Utah (rumor)
@ Mcneese
@ Eastern Wash
@ Cal Poly
@ Portland State
@ Montana
:yikes:

I dont usually like them, but a lower division game (just one) might be what the doctor ordered, hopefully we can get another FCS team to play instead of Utah

I think the Utah game is a definite, but it would be nice if it comes out that Utah bought out the contract and drops us from their schedule. Weber would make some dough and then have an open date for another possible home game. Gotta see if Utah still has the Cats on their schedule.

According to the Utah site only USU is on their 2013 schedule. I do remember being at a meeting where the AD said that Weber was going to play Utah in 2013 along with Utah State, but that was a while ago, before Smith came and went. So...maybe it isn't going to happen now. Maybe Utah changed its mind.

I remember hearing that the Pac 12 and the Big !0 were gonna start a yearly series against each other, maybe utah will drop us because of that.

I don't know about that. I've heard that Utah wants to play 1 FCS opponent every year. Last year they played Montana State, this year they play UNC. 2013 they plan to play Weber State. Maybe it is more of a verbal commit and they can't commit firmly until the date is closer. But I would guess that they will play us in 2013 unless something comes up. Say for example the B1G/PAC12 alliance of 1 game per year for every team is on the date they planned to play us... I guess we'll see.

Good points, but Weber's 2013 schedule is virtually set. There are only two open dates. What is the likelihood that Utah also has open dates on those weeks? I'm sure, if the AD's of the two schools have been talking that there is a great chance that they will find a match.
