Just got our first lead of the game, up 14-13 7:57 left in the half. Not a lot dropping so far tonight, shooting 4/13.

Anybody find a gamecast? Not having much luck so far.

Terrible first half. Got some work to do. Hayford has made great adjustments so far this season, we'll find out what he's made of here in the second half.

At some point, we have got to STOP FOULING! I understand trying to be the aggressor, but you have to do it with some degree of intelligence. Considering we have all upperclassmen on the floor, to continue to commit stupid fouls is ridiculous. And if we keep taking selfish, terrible, low percentage shots like the ones we are taking early in the second half (calling out you: CHIVERTON), we'll never improve on our 40% FG for the year.

A wake up call! This team has to learn that they have to bring the energy every game. We missed a golden opportunity to beat a local PAC 12 team on TV. Yuck!

Agreed, a terrible result. Still it shows where we need to improve: unnecessary fouls, rebounds and shot taking. This is clear from the difference in assists. Big discrepancy in blocks - do we do defence? Eagles are not playing a "team" game. Still we beat them in steals and turnovers so we have the ability. Come on Eagles, you know you have the talent, just get the teamwork together and everything else will fall into place:)

Never was a bball player so do not know the answer but wonder how we can switch to 5 guys playing for themselves so quickly. At Idaho we were at least 4 team players and Chiverton in the 1st half.

What the hell happened? I put the game on DVR because I had a dinner to go to last night, figuring I'd come home and watch a good game. I checked on the radio and Eastern was already down 17 early in the second half. I really thought Eastern could've competed in this one, but they flat got run off the floor and embarrassed.

Did Eastern just get some advantageous results early in the season that weren't really indicative of the team? I can't believe of all games not to show up, they'd do it in such an important game for the program. There are two teams EWU will ALWAYS be measured against: Gonzaga and WSU. Those are the two games that must always be the focus of the non-conference schedule. Bad results make us look like were still a second rate team.

Good point Clawman. I think this is going to be a longer season than I had hoped. I don't see good chemistry and Hayfords big recruit is the most selfish player on the team. His shot selection is horrid. Coach said he has to teach him the difference between a good shot and bad shot. My question is why? Chiverton is a junior, not a freshman. And, coach has had him for a full pre-season and many games. The "bad shot" learning curve should have been complete by now. It is pretty simple. If you take a bad shot, you sit. Period. You don't get a hug and pat on the butt.

More concerning are player statitisical trends compared to last year of our main guys. I don't think the key players are playing as well. Most of it is a lack of discipline in shot selection. And to OldTime's pt about fouling, another intersting data point pointing to lack of discipline. Consider the following...........

Player 2011 season FG% 2012 season FG%

Dean/Chiverton 39% 36%
Colimon 41% 31%
Johnson 42% 35%
Forbes 41% 33%

Team fouls per game 20 25

This will add up over a season and cost us some games I fear. The key players from last year seem to be regressing. Our leading scorer takes il-advised shots and doesn't pass as evidenced by his meager assist average of LESS than one per game. Our best inside threat that took only one three last year has taken five this year already and only making one. I hope that coach can pull the team together and regroup. Emphasis on team. With a team made up of mostly juniors and seniors we should showing more poise and discipline than what we are. We were picked third in the league due to our returning experience. Coach needs to make the most of that experience. I am sure he will and we will see a difference when we play division 1 teams again. We have some easy non-d1 wins coming up to work out the kinks and pad our record. I am glad that coach has all those D3 connections. We should be at .500 going into conference play, if not a little better. I still think that second or third in the big sky is very reasonable IF the team learns from this and coach gets his guy to be a team player.

Go to Sportslink site on Spokesman for video. I was amazed, but not surprised, to see number 24 in his "shooting sleeve" standing around watching cougars score as opposed to playing any help defense.

The WSU game must have been just "one of those games". We smoke Idaho and then WSU has a last second shot to edge Idaho...
