Re: Weber State article............ Reply
Maybe I am over confident, but I see Weber as a tune-up game and nothing more. Defense and an improved passing game should make for a relaxing second half.

Re: Weber State article............ Reply
I see this as being a close game for a couple of reasons:
1. Weber State will have a pretty fair team. They return the same good system, same good coach, and have several veteran players from a good team that will be ready to hit the ground running....more so than the Pokes in terms of a system and a coaching / player mechanism that has been in place.
2. Wyoming will really be getting their feet under them and I hope they can use this game to really make some strides in installing and learning the new system as well as getting some good player / position evaluation.
3. I don't see the Pokes showing everything they are capable in this game partly because both the coach and team will still be learning and partly because of the opponent the following the week.

Re: Weber State article............ Reply
Triple WY, I disagree with you about our staff showing Texas our offense. It is not like Texas has not seen and played against Missouri. I feel that Texas will have a pretty good idea what our offense is all about. Dismal did that against Montana one year and made the game a lot closer than it had to be. He basically ran the ball for most of the game because he did not want to show our offense to our next opponent. We just need to run our offense and know that we can execute the plays. If the players learn how to execute the plays, then it will give them confidence to know that they have already achieved it.

I do know that some of our administration has very little respect for McBride as a head coach. They knew that he had good talent at Utah when he was there and had trouble getting his teams to play at their talent level. That was quite a few years back, but I know they felt that way then. I personally don't have a clue as to what the score will be as I don't even know who our qb will be for sure. But if our new coach is worth a hoot, we should win by three td's if our defense plays at a decent level. And I think that they will be a strong unit. I am sure the game will be a little sloppy at times, the first game usually is. Just my opinion.

Re: Weber State article............ Reply
Good point twisted. I too feel that the most important part of this opener will be to run the offense and execute a game speed. I feel the tune up will be needed and I agree it will look sloppy at times. This is where all the time in the off season pays off. Every game is for all the chips and I don't expect this one to be any different.

I hope the defense will be strong as ever, and if they are I think we can hold Weber State to 10 points or less. Hopefully about 9 giving them feild goals and holding tight in the red zone.

I also hope and believe that the offense is going to show up with their game faces on. I feel coach Christensen had a warrior like attitude and there will be no mercy. The opener is a chance for Coach to make a statement to Pokenation and I feel that his statement will mirror his own saying, "It's a whole new rodeo."

I look for some fireworks 30 days from now and expect to see some positives. Weber state may be a good team in the big sky but we can't forget that that is the big sky and this is the MoWest.

Personally I would be more scared of a team like Idaho, who used to be big sky but proved their ability to compete at this level. We didn't have much trouble with Utah State, why would we have trouble with Weber State?

I definately see the glass half full, I don't know if I can garruntee any other victories following the Weber State game but it would be a crying shame to lose to these guys.

How come no hype or marketing out yet for the FIRST football game? Reply
Its great that the Texas game is sold out, but that was a given!! Sept 5th is DC first game as UW head coach and weber st is the most important opponent right now! Sept 5th is what ALL Cowboy fans should be excited about, i know i am! The Texas game doesnt mean squat if Wyo comes out and lays an egg against Weber St! Hell even the MTN is touting the Texas game as UWs season opener! So come on Uw marketing and laramie boomerang, get with it and lets see some excitement for UWs and DCs first game of the season!!

I personally know big shot Cowboy fans that think we will beat any lower division team anytime.

Why don't some fans learn the lessons of life.

I do believe Weber will be a fine team from the Big Sky.

I won't be looking past them. I remember the Northwestern loss. And the Idaho St loss

Remember last season most Poke fans thought we were going to kick the crap out of NDSU? We were horrid, and very lucky to come away with a W on that one.

Ron McBride knows how to win in Laramie......... Reply
and Weber State has nothing to lose.........

I expect a tough game, maybe Cowboys 13 Wildcats 3..........

It doesn't ever really matter whom plays whom. If you forget to get ready for any team, you will get hit in the mouth. Ask Michigan if they learned anything about that...or Tennessee last year...or anyone in the SEC that has had to face our team.

On every Saturday this season, two teams will suit the same amount of players, wear the same equipment, and play on the same field. Wyoming is used to being the underdog upset team, I sure hope that Weber State doesn't come in and upset us because all we can think about is Texas.

Although all I can think about is beating Texas too.....how can you not? That would be a great day for the brown and gold. Hell just a competitive game would be bad ass!

Proud to be a Wyoming Native!

LMAO!!! We play Weber St Sept 5th. And DIAA teams do not suit up the same amount of players as they do not have as many scholarhips as DI teams!
GO POKES

You cant blame them for being confident, no FCS team has ever won in Laramie, but I think most of the fans are underestimating us. But all will be shown on Sept 5th.

Is it football season yet?

I guarantee that O-line is still learning how to pass block for a scheme that passes 50-60 times a game. Stunt, twist and blitz fo' days. Put heaps of pressure on Sween or Crum. In the 8 games they started, last year, they threw for a grand total of 4 (combined)touchdowns. 720 (Combined) yards and completed barely 50% of their passes. (Sween completed just 48%). Both those guys are pretty darn sorry and you cant pass and win with sorry quarterbacks. And mark my words; we are in for some new looks and schemes from the Wildcat offense with a healthy quarterback.

Correction: Not 4 combined touchdowns, its actually 2. Oh, and it seems that they only really competed in one category; interceptions (12) 6 each. I think the new head coach would be justified in committing 2 honor killings on behalf of the Wyoming alumni and boosters.

Weber St article on their offense Reply

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7 returning starters inc. All Conf QB but fullback a key to their offense. They also lose 3 starters on the OLine- The Weber St game is huge- they are a very good 1-AA team nationally and UW has to win the debut of coach C.

I'm not looking past Weber State.................... Reply

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and I doubt the Cowboys will either, although, this is a major trap game, with the mindset to look past Weber to Texas being very alluring.

Cowboys 16

Weber State 3

I will be very disappointed if we dont score more than 16 points Reply

I think Weber St should be scared! Our Defense will play with their hair on fire! I am confident that our O will show signs of things to come! DC is no stranger to DI football or gameplans! Weber St better hope they escape Laramie healthy as the following week they go to Fort Fun.
GO POKES beat the wildcats silly!!!

The way I see it is that the defense scores a touchdown and the offense.... Reply

gets set up three times by the defense and kicks three field goals....

You are 100% right about the defense, but I'm sorry, the cupboard is bare on the offensive side of the ball, and they are going to have to prove to me that they can move the ball and score before I give them much credit.

I hope this isn't going to be another year of outstanding defensive play and poor offensive play.

This is the scariest game on the schedule. Honestly, it is probably the only game that we aren't expected to lose. A loss here would derail the train. Weber State might be an FCS school, but they have several players who are better than anything we have on our roster. I know we are supposedly going to have a "different team" from last year, but the reality is a good portion of the same players that won 4 games and only 1 game in conference last year are going to be on the field again. Weber would have mopped the field with NDSU last year. The Pokes better be ready for this game or this will be our most humiliating loss ever.

Wyoming's defense is far and above Weber St's defense, Wyoming's offense does not have the firepower or stars that Weber does. WSUs QB Higgins and RB Smith are probably NFL material. Should be an interesting battle.

The Weber fans on CS.com are still babbling about how this will be a great win for them. They're fully expecting back to back wins vs. Wyoming and CSU. I expect the Cowboy defense will probably beat the 4th Place Sisters as badly as they beat the Bison last year.

Yes. I agree that we need our fans to show up on the Weber State game. This is an important game. I believe that this game will determine our boys our whole season. Unfortunately I wont be able to make this game, but I will the texas game to support my nephew. I would love to be there but my country is too far.

Cameron Higgins is the QB and he is good(NFL material) also younger brother Zach play DB for Weber State. I also know that there are lots of Hawaii boys playing for this team.

So we need to win! .. because according to my brother everyone in Hawaii expect us to lose to Weber State. BTW what the hell is Brokeback???

Come on Pokes show up at the Weber STate and support our boys or young men.

Weber State needs to play their game and this will be 'their' game....Laramie is going to get a mean wake up call, and can plan to be 0-2

i think it's great that Wyoming would allow us to play them in Laramie; what an honor for the Wildcats to ride a bus for 5 hours to play such a worthy team. Imagine that the fans are very excited for a convincing victory, since Texas is on it's way to beat them. what a lovely chance to play some Wildcat football and show those Cowboys a thing or two about offensive firepower....on the defensive side, take some notes on our front 7....going to be deadly.

This is the best way for me to describe what is going to happen in Laramie on the 5th.
