from the Standard Examiner Sunday tonight:

"Xavian update

Freshman wide receiver Xavian Johnson, who was taken off the field on a stretcher Saturday with a neck injury, spent the night at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, where he underwent CT scans, X-rays and an MRI. The initial tests did not reveal significant injury to the neck, but Johnson remained at the hospital Sunday for further observation and testing because he complained of losing some feeling in his legs after the tackle that hurt him, Weber State team trainer Joel Bass said. Johnson will be evaluated again today to see if he can be released to return to Ogden.

Johnson, who had two catches for 36 yards in the game, was hit hard in the second half by Montana linebacker Caleb McSurdy. Johnson pulled his helmet off and rolled to his side briefly before being attended to by medical personnel.

Weber State officials flew Johnson's mother to Missoula on Sunday night to be with him. McBride went to see him after the game and offensive coordinator Matt Hammer remained with him at the hospital."

Do we know anything else today? It sounds like he will be ok.

The reason that he stayed another night is that he was not responding as they had expected when the medication had worn off. Sources say he might be in a wheelchair for 4-6 months. He needs to see the best neurosurgeon in Utah and get a second opinion, stat.

Xavian is a great kid, who works hard, and gives it his all. This is definitely a terrible thing. He, and his family, will be in my prayers.

My wife had surgery @ St. Pats this morning.
By coincidence into him & his mom on the same floor.
He was walking the hall & said he was doing fine.
Stayed over as a precaution.
