Interesting development down in SLC. Weber should consider something similar to improve the atmosphere, gone are the days selling 10k plus tickets except instate games. At least section off the upper bowl behind both baskets.

The sad thing is just a few years ago we were avging 8k for home games. I recall 10,500 for the CIT championship. :wall:

It all starts with the students. Beg, bribe, cajole, kiss up, or whatever it takes, but students are the future season ticket holders. It may take monumental effort over decades, but if you don't do it, it will not get better. Winning helps as well. :coffee:

For the near future, space with indoor facilities will be a plus. Packed tiny arenas are going to scare a lot of people off.

Weber State could always go back to Swenson Gym if they want a crowded environment, or they could win and draw more fans in to the Purple Palace. Even with reduced interest, it’s still the highest attended team in Big Sky with the best environment.

i really dont see utah having fans at home games let alone 8500. most of our box scores from last yr show 4k to 5k per game. the 2 non's had 2200 and 2700 and i think the season high was 6k for griz. cant believe 0 in-state ooc home games.

It's nice to hear from you Sir. Talhad is off doing more important things. Not sure where the others are. I think a lot of people are reluctant to post anything because, if they do and say anything positive, they just get personal attacks.

Anyway, I agree that there should be measures taken to reduce/enhance some of the seating at the Dee. I have often thought that basketball should follow the lead of football and build some executive suites. I know that it would be a major remodeling, but it might be a good, long range, plan. I feel that it should include a student lounge, baby sitting, press area and a catering area. I think it could bring a lot more money in and increase attendance. Any long range plan should include enhancements to student services at the games. :coffee:

Let's be honest, the Dee isn't a great venue for basketball. It works great as a multi-purpose facility, but it's too big for basketball and the circular formation puts fans too far away from the court and limits the view of the corners. A nice 8,000-10,000 seat facility similar to what USU and Montana have is much better for basketball. Heck, even what SUU and Dixie St have are better for basketball.

I agree. At the time it was built, it was state of the art. It was designed as multi purpose and it has filled that billing. Where the folding chair seating is located, was a pit for the band. That is a gone and the band, when it's there is now up in the stands. IMHO, those are improvements. The concourse has gone through some improvements, but the lines for consessions are too long and the options too few. The parking lot and grounds have been upgraded. IMO, the next big thing is luxury boxes, Catering area, and the student services I mentioned. I think the Dee can be upgraded and made to be a better venue. With the Lux boxes, they could remodel that floor section into student seating and bring them right down to the floor. All of this takes money of course. With the press, stat crew, media, and game management moved to the box area, seating on that side could be brought down to just behind the official game crew and team benches. :coffee:

While I agree some upgrades are necessary I dont think the Dee is that bad of a place to watch a game. I spent many games 4 rows from the top in the corner (where our season tix were growning up) and cant say its hard to see. Plus if I recall when we were having continued success from 2010-2014 we were avg 8-9k in attendance.
Weber has the capability to put 9-10k butts in seats. They just dont want to do the work to do so.

Old I do agree adding some suites would be a great way to generate more revenue, and the student on the floor would be awesome. It just takes work. The worst would be an empty student section on the floor. Also,it takes money to build those suites and it isnt coming fron tix sales. Donors are few and far between and as has been mentioned on here many times, weber isnt doing a good job at getting new ones.

I like the ideas presented. Dont see how we would get there.

Yeah, I understand about the money concerns. However, WSU does have the donors and the money could be raised quickly if a plan was put out there and people could see the value of it. Sponsored Suites that businesses could use to promote growth in their company can work well. Just ask the Jazz how that works. Plus, I think the students would be willing to chip in if they are getting better services out of it.
