Announced at the press conference that games with Weber and SUU have already been agreed to. Didn't announce what years for Weber game(s) but they'll play SUU in '20, '22, and '24.

I don't like that it creates even more in-state competition for recruits, even more so for SUU I'd imagine. I also don't like one more in-state bball team that will probably end up beating Weber regularly too.
Big Sky school I dislike most: The next team on WEBER STATE's schedule.

Meh, everyone in the state has improved its conference affiliation except Weber... and the Y who also have issues.

Dixie St games to be played in Ogden during the 2020 and 2022 seasons, and in St George during the 2021 season. Also, NAU agrees to play six games  with Dixie St.

Correct. Dixie St will officially be D1 FCS in 2020.

WSU just announced we will play Dixie in 2020, 2021 and 2022. My question is...why? Will that help WSU build a strong playoff resume?

Because they'll be D1 FCS, same level as Weber. It might take them a few years to be competitive at this level, but they have the potential to be a strong program. Their stadium is already better than half the Big Sky's, and as we all know, the Washington County area is one of the fasting growing areas of the country. If anything, Weber and especially SUU should be somewhat concerned about another school that will compete for recruits. If Weber can beat up on them these first three games, that should really help in recruiting against them.

I don't see how Weber could improve it's conference affiliation where we can't even sell out Stewart Stadium after a string of successful seasons. I like the Big Sky and am hoping that Weber can win a quarterfinal game in 2019!

He's probably referring to other sports. Let's face it, Big Sky basketball is terrible, and it's hard to accept when a school like Dixie St goes D1 and is in a better basketball conference on day 1.

So the implied suggestion is what?? For Weber State basketball to move to the WAC?? Under the current program status (coaching staff) we should be glad it's in the Big Sky, where we are at least competitive! I dare to say that WSU men's basketball at present would end up middle level status at best in the WAC. Let's see if Coach Rahe dares to schedule Dixie State in OOC for 2020 ! :twocents:

It'll happen merely because it is another DI game. Personally, I think this is a bad move for Dixie. Football at FCS is really expensive and I don't see the WAC adding football very quickly. They are going to be an FCS Independent punching bag for years to come. What I do see is Dixie trying to get membership in the Sky (please no one else) or Southland within 5 years after becoming DI. Why? The WAC isn't going to get 5 more teams to become a viable FCS league anytime soon, if ever. Once again football is very expensive. Only thing that could help the WAC get football was if USD left the Patriot and POLY/Davis left the Sky. That would give them 4 and I'm thinking they might get another DII to move up or someone in Cali to add football. One never knows. Dixie is hoping for a quick invite to a bigger league or option II discussed above.

If not...they will be the FCS punching bag for years.

Every sport. Too much garbage, too many teams in the BSC dragging the conference down. No, I'm not implying the WAC is the answer. Schedule better teams and fans will show up.

Personally I am hoping the P5 conference splits and a new level is created and WSU is in it with Utah St, WY, UM, etc.

As a former Weber County resident (and lifelong Weber State fan) and a current, almost graduated student of Dixie State, I'd rather be a part of the Big Sky than the WAC without any second thoughts. I'm a little vain, but I like how with most Big Sky teams, most of the country knows where the teams are located (unlike Weber State and Dixie State, but that's a topic for another time...).

Also, the WAC is so spread out geographically. There are really only two teams I even care about in the WAC, those being UVU (in state) and New Mexico State (name recognition in terms of being one of the top two schools in its respective state, on par with Idaho State and Montana State). With that said, beggars can't be choosers, and the WAC is a much better fate than being a Division II institution.

I know the Big Sky is crowded right now, but perhaps Dixie State can one day find a home there. They've already got Weber and SUU scheduled for three football games, and six with Northern Arizona. Not sure how Dixie convinced a 3-3 deal with Northern Arizona (2 for 1 with Weber and SUU). I could see Dixie being a better fit in the Big Sky than say UC Davis (football only), Cal Poly (same), and Sacramento State (historically unsuccessful and a very weak basketball "arena").

Dixie State would need to find a baseball home though, if it ended up joining the Big Sky. (Edit: Sacramento State plays baseball in the WAC, so that problem could be easily solved).

With all this said, despite having ties to both Weber and Dixie, I'm going for a Weber State sweep! Hopefully Dixie State can get a few wins against SUU and NAU though to show they could belong in the Big Sky.

I don't see how this changes our recruiting at all. We don't lose guys to SUU and it would be the rare player who had a full offer to WSU and chose Dixie instead.

I think it is great that they are moving up and I hope that we continue to play them in all sports. We don't want to become like those DBags to the south. I expect to see them in the Dee Center in 2020. I think a 2 for one is okay, but I would go for a H n H as well. Maybe it starts off much like it did with Utah Valley State.
Things are good, but they are sure to get better!

Of course Rahe will schedule Dixie State if they are interested in getting an instate series started with us, when has he EVER not scheduled games against the other D1 instate schools?

He may not have a good record against the rest of the state but its never kept him from scheduling them.

As far as scheduling them in football goes, Why Not? They aren't D2 anymore and a win against them counts towards the playoffs. Not only that we can now add another rivalry to our schedule. We are not Utah, we aren't afraid to schedule our instate rivals in sports. In my opinion as long as Dixie State is Independent they should be on our schedule every year.

Okay...uh, so, I was wrong. The WAC is in a great position to get more football playing teams. Dixie is the first, but if NMSU can't find a home, they might pull an Idaho and bring football back to the WAC, with an expectation that the WAC work on building back into an FBS (that is a pipe dream). No matter, that would give them 2. Grand Canyon is planning on adding football soon. So, there is 3. Central Washington has long desired the chance to move. This might be their opportunity and of course they will go WAC; 4. UTRGV is also planning on adding football in the near future, this is Texas after all. Now that gives the WAC 5. They just need 1 or 2 more programs to either add, join, or move up to become a viable football conference again. California Baptist might have plans, but haven't heard that they will. UVU could, but most likely, won't (my money is on UVU trying to get into the Summit). There has been talk of Azuza Pacific possibly moving up too. Will be interesting to watch what unfolds. Issue now is that the SKY must stay relevant and competitive.

GCU isn’t interested in starting a football program. Maybe that changes if they change to a non-profit, but they’ve shown no interest in football so far.

Dixie State can do whatever they want. Just don't expand the Big Sky. I don't mind playing them, I certainly don't think we need a home and home and not really excited about a 2 for 1. Just play a non conference home game every couple of years.
