• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

Good news: Bengals win and improve to 2-0 on the season.

Bad news: The Bengals did not have a good outing tonight. They were dominated in the first half, and although they showed sparks of brilliance in the second half, they only put up a total of six shots (two on goal) the entire night.

Good news: Despite the poor performance, they were still able to pull out a win. They had another chance to get some experience under their belts without losing a game, and should be better prepared for their next game.

Bad news: If they start out against Colorado College like this on Sunday, CC will eat their lunch. They have to start the game on Sunday with the same fire they played the first 10 minutes of the second half. If they can start strong and play they entire 90 minutes with that same level of intensity, there is not a team on their schedule that can't be beat.

Good news: The defense looks almost as strong as ever, despite the team coming out flat. Air Force made a couple of real challenges on the ISU goal, but either through tremendous hustle or a stroke of luck (or both) ISU dodged the bullet. Bailey Williams played the entire game in goal, earned a win and a shutout and had had five saves (including an incredibly strong stop late in the game.) She showed that ISU is lucky to indeed have depth in the GK position. (Two wins, and a 0.5 Goal Against average over two games under two freshmen keepers with star senior keeper Maren Eves out with an injury.) The rest of the defense shows they have the same talent to shut down attacks as last year, allowing only 8 shots on goal all night. (However, some of the defenders were getting beat tonight... it looked like the 6,000+ foot altitude was getting to some of them.)

Bad news: The offense was shades of last year. I think this team is working together better than the team last year. However, we are still having a hard time attacking the goal. Hofstetter put up three sold shots on the night (one powerful shot bouncing off the crossbar and back into the field of play,) but that was half of the shots for the entire team. For this team to compete against the likes of BYU, San Diego and even Sac State, they need to be taking at least 15-25 quality shots per game.

Best news: It is still early in the season. This team has a ton of talent. The freshmen are a fantastic boost to the team and every one appears the have starter ability. (Four freshmen started tonight - way ahead of where we were by the second game last year.) ISU probably has the strongest bench in the conference, if not in the intermountain west. If Coach keeps recruiting like this, ISU will become a soccer powerhouse. (Note: this is only Coach Gibson's second recruiting class, and 14 of the 17 on the field tonight came under Coach Gibson over the past two years... all except for the remarkable talents of Quigley, Hofstetter and Beseris.) The team has a great coach and they will go nowhere but up. They have the ability to not only take the Big Sky, but even to do some serious damage in the NCAAs. They are exciting to watch, and a great group of young women who can be strong examples for local youth who are falling in love with the sport. ISU Soccer is developing into one of the great entertainment choices for Pocatello.
