Great addition to the Vikings! I watched several Pilot games last season and thought this young man was becoming better and better as the season progress. A late bloomer with a great amount of potential. Great job by Coach Coburn and staff on picking up Curtiss!:

Men's Basketball Team Adds Hayden Curtiss For 2021-22
Portland State Men's Basketball has bolstered its front court with the addition of Hayden Curtiss to the roster in 2021-22. Coach Jase Coburn announced that Curtiss signed a grant-in-aid with the Viking program on Tuesday.

Curtiss is a 6-9 freshman forward/center who will give PSU added height and shot blocking ability. He played this past season at the University of Portland. Curtiss averaged 2.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots in 11 minutes per game. He led the team with 25 total blocked shots and shot .487 from the field. Due to the NCAA's waiver for the COVID-19 pandemic, Curtiss maintains freshman eligibility.

"When we turned the tape on we were impressed by all the things he can do," said Coburn. "Obviously, his shot blocking is a huge plus for us. His ability to move and defend is something we really looked at. Offensively, he is really talented and is just scratching the surface of where he can go. I am looking forward to him anchoring our defense for a long time."

Curtiss is a graduate of Mount Si High School in North Bend, WA. He led the team to a 2020 Washington 4A State Championship. During the tournament run, he shot 20-22 from the field. Curtiss earned All-KingCo honors as a senior, helping his team to a league title and undefeated season.

He joins a Viking team that currently has eight players returning for 2021-22, including three starters. Coburn has now signed six transfers in two months since taking over as head coach.

Coburn has been with the Viking program for eight years, including five as an assistant coach and three as associate head coach.
