• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

Week 3 - #8 Sac State at Stanford

Hey guys, if you’re looking for a way to watch the game today — it’s on the PAC12 network. FUBO TV carries that network and you can sign up for a 7-day trial to get it. Just be sure to add the sports package (also free during the trial period). Also be sure to cancel it within 7-days unless you plan to keep it.

I signed up and have Idaho v. Cal up on one of my TV’s as I type this.

We’ll, called that Taylor onside

Up 14-3, no less. Showed a little concern, IMO. They were lucky it worked caused it was a low percentage play right there along the sideline.

Luckily our Hornets forced the turnover later in the possession.

I’m quite pleased to see the Hornets leading at half, as they didn’t really start out well and dug an early hole. Now they look like they’ve got some real confidence and swagger.

Here’s hoping they carry it through the 2nd half and add another PAC12 victim to their resume.

17-14 Hornet lead at the half. Absolutely stellar play calling by Fresquez. Defense tightened up, but mainly because Taylor (as usual) went away from what was working (power running game). Love that TT took a timeout with him into half time. So fitting.

That was a perfect kick. Too hard and its out of bounds and Hornet ball at the 50. Too soft and the Hornets fair catch it. Ballsy call.

It's in a bag with the ones from the UIW playoff game. :winky:

Now that some time has passed to digest this monumental 30-23 win, it’s pretty amazing how close to the brink it was from being a rout in the Cardinal favor. The Hornets forced a redzone turnover and then took the ensuing drive 80 yards to turn what could have been a 3-21 game into a 10-14 game. It was a total dog fight from that point on as the Hornets continued to display that grit we have seen time and time again during our BSC Title threepeat over the past 4 years. This was a complete team victory at every facet of the game and a huge win for this program.

Lots of positives to mention in a game like this, so here we go:

  • Offensive play calling was phenomenal. Those 2 touchdown calls out of the goal line power sets were just magnificent. A never before seen reverse sweep and a naked boot to the pylon were executed to perfection as the offense racked up almost 450 yards of total offense.
  • Offensive line took care of business. It wasn’t perfect but they were able to open some running lanes and protect KB just enough (0 sacks) to allow him to get his throws off. Having Stiefel back in the lineup is huge.
  • KB (21/33, 279 yds, 1 TD, 2 INT, 13 car, 100 yds, 1 TD) is a total phenom. Absolutely stellar performance evading the pass rush, creating plays with his legs, and making clutch throws. He forced a couple throws that resulted in picks, but for the most part he is making good decisions. How he got the game winning throw off, let alone saw an open Fulch, has yet to be explained.
  • Fulch (13 car, 46 yds, 1 rec 49 yds, 1 TD) made one of the most memorable plays on that game winning catch and run. He’s just outstanding in the open field.
  • The receivers made the plays when they were there for the making. Gandy (5 rec, 64 yds) led the way in receiving production, but this was a group effort as 8 different Hornets caught a pass with 4 of them having at least 49 yards.
  • The Hornet defense got clutch stops at critical moments of the game and kept Stanford out of the endzone for the last 43 minutes of the game. Yes. This Hornet defense kept Troy Taylors offense out of the endzone for the final 43 minutes of the game. Re-read that sentence at least 3 times. The also disallowed a reception by stud Cardinal tight end Yurosek for the first time in his career. Re-read that sentence once.
  • Defensive line got punked early on but they bowed up and gained control of the line of scrimmage. That pressure late in the game was the difference in this one. Hornets got consistent pressure and sacks with just the front 4. They completely took Stanford out of the game late. Stanley (5 tak, 3 TFL, 3 sac) led the team in sacks as the Hornets got to the Cardinal QB 6 times on the night and were a hair away from having a few more.
  • The Hornet linebackers got to the ball and made the plays when needed. Bailey (11 tak, 1 TFL, 1 sac) was all over the place and had a banner evening. Mather (2 tak, 0.5 TFL, 0.5 sac) didn’t rack up big numbers but he played his role on the blitz.
  • The secondary struggled at times but made plays when needed. More impressively, they stepped up and played the run well as the Cardinal started to impose their will in the run game. The huge interception by Nelson (3 tak, 1 INT) totally changed the complexion of the game and Broussard (11 tak, 1 INT) had a huge night and snagged a pick to negate a KB interception on the prior possession.
  • The Hornets cashed in points on every turnover the defense forced. Forcing turnovers are great, but if the offense can’t parlay them into points then it is less impactful.
  • Kicking was clutch. Schreiner (3/3 FG, 3/3 PAT) hit a big 44 yarder to tie the game late in the 4th quarter as he was able to match one of he best kickers in all of college football kick for kick. It’s also important to note that both kickers kept every kickoff in bounds as that could have spelled disaster in a close game.

Not sure how anyone doesn’t have us as the favorites to win the BSC crown at this point. It’s still early in the season and Hornet fans should definitely savor this win, but title implications are on the line with a tough game at Idaho next week. Heavy is the crown. :king:

A few more tack ons to the great post above.

Jace O’Hara played limited snaps but was huge for us when he was in.

We used Martin as a decoy on several of the big pass completions we had. I don’t think he is 100% but he used him enough to help the team and he did an amazing job.

Here’s the Jason Ross calls of Kaiden to Marcus (how have we not named that play yet?) and the final defensive stop.
