Terms of his new contract aren’t known, but Duft is back per the Standard Examiner. What a clown show. Might as well sign Mental to an extension on the same day. Crompton and the administration are plain pathetic. They couldn’t even get people to games with free tickets via banks and credit unions this year. I think fans have voted with their decreasing attendance. I know I’m not buying tickets anymore. Nice that big donors are ponying up money to have 1,500 fans watch subpar basketball in the Dee. Guess I’ll just watch the clown show on ESPN Plus.

It’s not even multiple donors. They are claiming it is multiple so it doesn’t all fall back on Dame. The only person demanding Duft be the coach and donating money is Damian Lillard alone. No matter how you look at it this is a bad look for Dame to be putting the school in this situation is bad but it is great he is donating I guess

Agreed. Love that Dame wants to donate and support Weber State Basketball. Though, I'm not sure this is the best use of his money. Frankly, if I was the AD, I would want to chat with other donors and get their feel for the situation. Weber isn't as poor as the administration sometimes likes to say it is. We do have a lot of really deep pocketed alumni. Is it really smart to lose 5-10 major donors to keep 1 donor happy? Especially if some of those other donors have A LOT more $$$ than Dame? Once again, LOVE Dame. Happy that he wants to be involved and support his alma mater. Also, proof, again, that he is one heck of a loyal guy. Definitely cannot fault him for his appreciation and love for Coach Duft. However, if he is the only guy (which is what I have heard) this can become a really tricky situation.

On another note, I had an interesting conversation with a friend. He is a former basketball player. Recently he returned to the area and isn't as well versed in the Randy Rahe saga. He kept trying to tell me that since Duft is a newer HC that we need to give him more time. I appreciate his candor. My friend is a total stud and played on a couple of really good Weber State teams. However, DUFT is not a new coach. He has been at Weber State for (now will be) 20 years. From what I understand, he was virtually the HC the last few years of Randy's tenure. His real record, is below .500. Nobody should count the 6 or 7 FLUFF games he has had. Without those he is well below .500. EVEN with a NBA first rounder, his teams floundered at the end of the season. Those teams, like this year, never really got better. They stayed the same and got bounced in the tournament. I don't see things changing like they need to, to get Weber State Basketball back to where it has always been. More money means better players who lose more dramatically (I saw this on FB, but agree wholeheartedly). I like the guy and want him to succeed. BUT, its not going to happen. Good teams develop strong, dedicated and determined fan base. That tends to be a barometer of success. That is virtually nonexistent at the moment.
