Duft New Contract

Details of Dufts new contract are out and as expected they gave 3 years with an early termination clause at any point. Meaning if next season is bad then he is gone. This type of contract proves that they were ready to move on from Duft until Dame threw him a bone. Dame can’t save him twice if next season ends bad again.

The article also confirms my first reporting that Leonard Perry is no longer with the team. I wonder if Olds still thinks my sources are bad 🧐

Ugh! Just continuing the trend of low expectations & "just enough" mode the administration has with the men's BB coaching. HC Duft at least is on probation to "walk" his "talk". He will come up with plenty of excuses to thwart any "termination for cause" action, which appears as a subjective matter of opinion on the part of administration. They've already shown their hand plenty during the past several years! Go ahead and prove this fan wrong in expecting 3 more years of lame, unexciting results.🥺

To me, this is merely exercising the option with benefits. Duft is on a very short leash. My worry...the schedule is going to be a complete joke next year. Only DI games should count.

It really isn't about the pre-season. I feel that he and everyone else knows, it's about BSC games and post season games. We have Utah on the schedule as a money game, and a couple of other home games of interest. I'm sure there will be some real dogs as well, there always are. I just want to see substantial improvement in BSC performance. Those are the games that 'count'.

I have zero faith in the administration, AD, bball coach, and football coach. I honestly expect about three more years of a crapfest and then Crompton and Duft to basically retire together and Mental to go back to the Midwest to coach D-II.

There is no leash because there are no expectations or accountability. I used to actually get fired up for Weber State to play in-state basketball games and expected them to compete their asses off and get some wins every now and then. Now I just pray we don’t get our asses handed to us by UVU or Utah Tech because clearly their players care way more about these games. Duft has even basically told fans not to worry about conference games as he will get it figured out for the tournament. This whole apathy, malaise, ennui, is depressing as hell.

Honestly, until Duft, Mental, and Compton are gone and the administration actually cares to aim high, nothing will change. I definitely hope for the scratching and clawing Wildcats of Weber State to return, but settle in for the Mildcats of Ennui-ber State for a while.

Ennui-ber State, Ennui-ber State, meh, meh, meh.

Actually of one the only times I have agreed with Olds. Conference is what has always been the most important. Saint Marys was a great win for the program and I believe that win came on the backs of the players playing cohesively great not from anything the coaching staff did. Conference play that year nulled that win. If we don’t win the conference championship, unless we finish top 3 in the regular season and make an appearance in the championship game, this staff should be gone.

I’ve expressed more frustration than anyone here and Crompton was lazy for hiring Duft after Rahe retired but he was going to move on from Duft this summer until Dame stepped in and Dame only stepped in because Dufts entourage reached out to beg for help. I guess you could blame Crompton for not having the balls to tell Dame no but would you?

I would have sent Duft his walking papers when they lost at home to Sac State and it was very apparent, short of the rest of the Big Sky teams coming down with measles, they weren’t going to have any chance winning the conference tournament. I wouldn’t have made it to be a preemptive move but it would have functioned just as well.

If Dame’s money was already contingent on Duft being coach at that point in February, I’m sure I would have made the same move as Crompton…but I’d be dang sure the administration knew my intentions so another crap season wouldn’t reflect on me…and honestly, I wouldn’t give any top cover to Duft, I’d basically state the truth that an important donor would pull donations if Duft was fired so he was retained.

Maybe Dame can step right into the coaching job in 2-3 years given his latest health challenges should he not be able to recover to the level he wants to play in the NBA.
