The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

Delay, protract and hinder until all deadlines are missed, all new conference members are confirmed and force the school to push everything out another year in hopes of losing interest in being an independent.
Meanwhile, FUCD is full steam ahead with their MWC membership.
FBS membership has been out of Dr. Wood's hands once he got the application in just over a month ago. It's up to the various committees to vote on it now. Whether they do it at this week's meeting or sit on it for a future meeting remains to be seen. There's been a lot going on regarding D1 governance so these committees could be "too busy" to deal with our FBS application, I hope that isn't the case.
The phags aren't currently applying for FBS membership at this time and are only changing Oly sport homes. I don't believe the various committees have anything to do with that.
I thought there were 2 committee's that our FBS application has to go through. June 16th sounds like it's going to be too late, but maybe I am misunderstanding the process.
On another note, the MW members departing for the Pac formally issued their resignation over the weekend. This ensures that there will be 2 FBS conferences out west and significantly reduces the risk of Dr. Wood's "Pac or Bust" and subsequent Indy status approach to attain FBS membership.
Additionally, the MW had to cut a sweetheart deal to UNLV and Air Force to retain them as members. Those two will most certainly bail for "greener pastures" when the next round of media deal re-ignite conference realignment in the early 2030's.

I read somewhere a couple a months ago that the Oversight Committee would have there final two meetings something like June 5th and 8th and present their decision/ recommendation at the NCAA meeting on June 23rd/25. Cutting it pretty close before the July 1st deadline.

Davis is reactionary and uncreative. They only jumped to MW because Sac State is trying to move up. Moving the oly sports is fine, but the key is FBS. They're not there yet. Yes, they have the money, etc, but their style is ideally suited for the MWC where they can stay conservative and let the MWC commissioner do the the heavy lifting.
The MWC appears like a logical stepping stone for us due to location and general university standings. But if we're talking culture, the MWC is not the best fit and it would truly be a stepping stone. The MW needs stability and would be hesitant to bring in a school that has higher aspirations right after they lost 5 schools with higher aspirations.
It sucks to see Davis appear to be ahead of us, but in reality they're not yet. The right move is for Sac State to position themselves for the next wave of tv contracts and realignment. Be free of conference buyouts and transition status. Create a brand and find a conference that aligns.
Oly sports home is not important as long as it's regional to save money and there are auto-bids to the important tournaments. Don't know how it works out, but this play makes sense for where the school wants to be.
Right now, the timing of it all is out of Sac States hands. I would think the Committee is aware of a sensitive to the timing of it all. Any unnecessary (intentional) delays could lead to a lawsuit and the NCAA does not have a good record in legal battles.
Agreed and excellent post. People are viewing the MW through the lens of today based on how far that conference came over the last 25 years. What the MW has built to become is impressive, but all the top brands of the MW are departing with the exception of UNLV and Air Force and they likely won't be in the MW when the next round of realignment hits. The MW will be an FCS feeder conference in football and very likely a one bid Oly sports conference with far flung travel once the dust from this current realignment settles.
To be honest, I'm not certain that an all sports MW membership is a better place than BW and FBS Independence right now. If the BW/FBS Indy setup is where we land, it will position us well for the next round of realignment as the MW will always be there as they will be in a pinch for FB members when UNLV & AFA depart. BW membership for Oly sports would minimize expenditures for those programs and allow Hornet admin to redirect those funds to football.
For all those bashing Dr. Wood's gambit on "PAC or Bust", it looks like that was the correct read. Interesting times ahead.
