Can't wait for SD's preview of this one with some of the player-mix I see at CP. Lots of storylines here.... revenge, guys on/off the team, can they keep the momentum going, will be push past 15k in attendance?

State Hornet reported Agiye Hall will remain with the team, but is not eligible to play this season.

What do you think @SDHornet ? I love that there are INTs in the write up that didn't happen according to the Box Score lol...

Game Story

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State rode a balanced offensive attack and a bend-but-don’t-break defense to a 41-35 win over Cal Poly on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The Hornets improved to 3–2 on the season, while Cal Poly drops to 2–3.

Quarterback Cardell Williams turned in one of his best games of the season, completing 23 of 32 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns, and avoiding any interceptions. Running back Damian Henderson II bolstered the ground game, rushing for 140 yards and two scores. Freshman wideout Ernest Campbell emerged as a key weapon, hauling in seven catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

For Cal Poly, QB Ty Dieffenbach showed his dual-threat ability, throwing for 300 yards and three touchdowns and chipping in a rushing score, but the Mustangs were undone by two critical turnovers and some untimely defensive breakdowns. Michael Briscoe caught eight passes for 140 yards and two scores, while Jordan Garrison added six catches for 120 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, Sacramento State got a big game from Derek Houston, who led the team with 12 tackles and broke up a pass in the fourth quarter to snuff out a potential tying drive. Safety Koa Akui secured an interception deep in Hornet territory late in the third, setting up a scoring drive. Edge defender Jayland McGlothen pressured Dieffenbach all evening, recording two sacks and multiple tackles for loss. On Cal Poly’s side, linebacker Mikey D’Amato led the team with 11 tackles and a sack; cornerback Kresean Kizzy added an interception that kept the Mustangs in striking range late.

Cal Poly opened with a quick strike, as Briscoe hauled in a 25-yard TD pass, but Sacramento State responded with a field goal and then scored on the ground to take the lead. The Hornets pulled ahead in the second quarter with Williams-to-Campbell connections, and they held a 24–14 edge at the half. The Mustangs battled back in the third, tying and then taking a one-score lead at times, but Sacramento State’s late-game composure—anchored by a running touchdown by Rodney Hammond Jr. and a clutch 42-yard field goal by Grant Meadors—sealed the win.

Game Notes Observations

  • Jamar Curtis listed as an "OR" with Sam Adams II. Keep in mind, Jamar Curtis played as a True Freshman. If he's hurt, they might be trying to float him to the Idaho and UC Davis games + playoffs and then he could return in 2026.
  • Puloka who started last two games, not listed on two-deep.
