UC Davis

Still don't have a good feel for this team. They might be better than what I originally thought, but I don't want to get my hopes up. Saturday was a bit closer than I wanted. Figured the Cats would score 35-45 points, but would only give up 13-20 points. Granted, Weber turned the ball over on downs at the 3 and Butler keep a touchdown scoring drive alive with a really interesting roughing the QB call. Guy was still in the throwing motion when he got hit by Hardy. Yet, the game was too close going into the 4th quarter. That game should have been over at halftime. The Cats keep turning over the ball and disappeared on offensive for a quarter and a half.

UC Davis is an enigma. They can move the ball, but haven't been stellar on defense (like we have). I feel we have played tougher competition and that being 2-2 is as good as we could have hoped at this point. I'd like to see the Cats show up, play disciplined football and compete. That is the most we can ask for. A win goes a long way for this team. I wouldn't doubt seeing a final score in the 40s for both teams. Something like 45-42.

The Wildcats have to take care of the ball and not commit so many penalties to win on the road…I just don’t see it happening. I think UC Davis 38-27. I think this game will be a good measuring stick game. I think Wildcats are close to a 5-3 conference team, but just don’t have the discipline and coaching to get there. I honestly am thinking it will be a 2-6 conference team.

I don't know much about Davis, other than they were highly thought of at the beginning of the season. My feelings are that a win would be nice, but getting better and more consistent is what I expect. The Butler game was a bit disapointing. We show glimpses of becoming a better team and will follow that up by shooting ourselves in the foot. We are young, but we are not inexperienced any longer. It's time to settle in and start doing better.

Just going to predict Ws or Ls without scores going forward in BSC play now. The cream of the crop teams will now begin to surface to the top. Wish, but just don't expect the young Wildcats developing into a top half conference team yet, seems baby steps for better play but then they trip up, offense stumbles.

Guessing 3-5 in BSC this season (wins vs. Portland St., Eastern Washington, & Idaho St.) so two losses coming up right ahead. But hey, 5-7 is one better than last season & if the team shows competitiveness, then Mental will get his one more yr. on the contract.🤨

You know what pisses me off? Davis had 17,000 fans at their last game, what were our numbers? A fake 6,000? Hire their marketing team!!

SUU coach was b*tching that there "weren't 17k in that stadium."

Davis has been successful getting the students out to the first game of the season. The following games, not so much.

I posted on this here:

Consistent attendance in the Big Sky is tough for everyone (except Montana/MSU).

Davis is still figuring things out on both sides of the ball. Big names on offense graduated (Larison, Hastings among others), and an almost entirely new starting defense (Connors brothers remain). Lots of new talent.

This game could be closer than people think, or Davis could win big scoring 50+......That's kind of where I'm at as Davis fan right now.

I tip my hat to UC Davis because at least they put the effort into trying to get a good turnout and can get at least one great turnout. I had to download an app to find out GA tickets were $5 off. 😂

You don’t see any marketing or student turnout effort…but that is the least of the Wildcats problems right now. If you look at the box score with the McNeese game, you would find it almost impossible that the Wildcats won that game and they managed to make a game out of Butler that should have been out of reach at halftime.

The QB has 9 picks, the red-zone offense is weak, and they commit way too many penalties. They still show flashes and have potential, but they usually can’t consistently string it together. I think they have the ability to compete and possibly beat UC Davis, but I give the advantage to the Aggies with coaching and that will most likely be the difference. They kicked up a notch and put away SUU whereas the Wildcats have to hope for a big lead and try to hold onto it by the skin of their teeth. SUU shouldn’t complain about attendance numbers and just be glad Big Sky let them back in after WAC adventure…wonder if Sac State will get the same accommodation down the road if the PAC or MWC doesn’t invite them.
