Anyone heard any rumors on possible candidates applying yet? I know it is still a bit early. I for one am ok with seeing more potential candidates occurring due to firings and taking some time.
 
Brett did a great job with this article and assembled a really good list. SWeber his list included:

Colton Swan (If Whit retires, he has a really good shot at being the DC at the U. Hard to turn that down.). AGAIN THOUGH...COLTON is and should be, the top choice. My opinion.
Fesi Sitaki (Heard from a friend...this guy knows, that Fesi isn't quite ready to be a HC)
Justin Ena (Like Swan...)
Jason Kaufusi (I don't know if Weber could get him to leave Washington)
Nick Howell (Just me, and this goes back to his BL days, not a huge fan, but he is a local guy and USU's defense is on the rise)
Ed Lamb (LOVE ED....he'd be great. But, I don't see him leaving Greeley.)
Brent Myers (He probably should have gotten the job three years ago. Should be retained by the next guy)
Grant Duff (Not sure he is ready to be a HC. BUT, love Duffy!).
Jamie Martin (No. Should he be retained as an offensive coach...definitely)
Robb Akey (Not sure he would be interested)
Ilaisa Tuiaki (HUGE wildcard)
Frank Maile (I think he would really do well in Ogden. Personally, he did a good job in a crap situation at USU)
Eric Price (Eric Price has always been someone I've admired. BUT No.)
Jake Cookus (Not ready)

Really good list. I wish he'd added Kelly Poppinga (maybe Brett knows more than I do, even though he claims he doesn't). Guy is ready to be a HC and would kill it in Ogden. He would only be here a short time though.

Interesting thought...Dan Hawkins? OR, his son Cody? ISU has overachieved with Cody as their coach. He would have far more resources, better facilities, recruiting potential and legacy at Weber. As or Dan...UC DAVIS owes their resurgence to Coach Hawkins. He is the reason they are where they are.

GARY ANDERSON??? Heard that Tim burned that bridge, but a repentant AD could help bring him North. He would absolutely kill it and won't be running to greener pastures.
 
Has anyone heard anything as far as the coaching search, actual candidates, or timeline of when they hope to have a coach in place? It seems like they are certainly dragging their feet, but maybe the AD and search committee have the same work schedule as congress and senate members and are already off for the holidays.
 
Two things stand out in this discussion. First, there has been no public announcement and second, we just had the largest early signing class ever. Plus, there are many highly regarded players in that class.

I feel that these players already know who our new coach will be and are happy with the change. I also feel that the new coach will not be announced until after whatever post season activities they are engaged in, are completed. Delaying the announcement is often at the request of the incoming coach. They could also be in the final stages of contract negotiations. I don't see a problem with the lack of an announcement.
 
The selection committee is near the end of interview process. I would surmise that a new coach will be announced no later than Monday. How about a D2 coach with an unusual (difficult to pronounce) last name?

A local D11 coach, or at least western US?

Could it also be that a choice has been made, but contract negotiations are not complete?

Could it be that everything is complete, but they just want to get all parties informed and onboard before an announcement is made?

Could it be that our selection is still involved in post season play and doesn't want an announcement yet?
 
It could be any of the above but my money is on the idea that they have completed the interview process and will be making the announcement very soon. Division 2 coach with the funny last name will be the choice.

Well, Whitt's retirement was announced in the Standard today. So, there is that. ;-)
 
Teasers here...63 yr old Annese in Michigan??? fail to see it as a good get; why not Snow College's HC (but he hasn't a funny last name), that would be a good get; Whitt is signed up for a $3-4 mill. "advisory" role with Ute athletics; seriously, might as well surmise that it will be a newbie from where ever, which is hopefully good & if he wants to retain any current assistants so be it.

Of course, could play along here & say Jay Hill just was asked if he's still interested in a HC position, said yes, but it would have to be a real good situation (& he really prefers the color purple for a team & loved the northern Utah area ;-)....stay tuned!
