Players transferring

Don’t expect Hunter Hansen on campus this fall. New staff let him go. Tiger Cuff also chose to go to Hawaii because of the Hansen situation. The new staff isn’t starting hot on their promise of local guys
 
Looking at the portal and his IG account, Dylan Warlick, 6'5" forward transferring from Saint Louis to WSU. Played sparingly in 2024-25, no stats for last year, will be a sophomore. Former 3* recruit. Was not on their team 2025-26, he left the program in November 2025 and redshirted.
 
I expect there will be at least one JC transfer and it would be good to add some older varieties as well. We could certainly use some guys that would be Jrs and Srs next year. We are loaded with Sos and Frs right now.
 
Another to add, New Mexico State reserve center Augustine Ekwe, 6'9" transfer who will be a sophomore. I'm glad he is adding some size. From Nigeria, Ekwe played two years at Wasatch Academy in Utah, where he didn't play much and didn't put up much in stats.

From what I can see online, he and Tshilobo are quite similar players. Ekwe is a bit bigger and a little better shooter. They both are big bodied, freak athletes who need a lot of skill development. They both have high ceilings but have a long ways to go. This gives us three 5s. Cutler is the most skilled out of the three, but Ekwe and Tshilobo are the bigger, stronger athletes. That's 15 fouls to give, and that is a good thing at that position. We need another guard and a handful of skilled forwards now.
 
And we got one from Utah, Alvin Jackson 111, a 6'5'' guard. He played one year for SLCC, signed with the UUs, red shirted, and transferred to us. Also, a 6'7'' forward out of Seatle, Brock Felder and Dyllan Thomson, 6'7'' out of Georga Tech. Some had him as a 4 Star guy out of HS. By my count, we still have 2 or 3 spots to fill. At this point, I think we just get the best we can get at any position.
 
Another one today. 6'9'' forward Chamberlain Burgess, 4 Star, transferring from BYU, has been on a mission, has 4 years of E.

Freshman Bo Tshilobo, 6'8'', center has entered the portal. He played very little and was injured. Big strong athletic player with low skill level. He could develop into something special with a lot of work.

Kaleb Jackson has been released from his commitment.

That gives us 12 committed players so far. We have three spots yet to fill. My guess is that we will get one more guard and two bigs.

We will be young. So far, we have 5 freshmen, 5 sophomores, 1 junior, and 1 senior. I feel that they will be looking for upperclassmen, but who knows.

it was a little similar to a Romeo and Juliet situation. Hansen wasn’t being retained which led to Cuff deciding to leave. Cuff deciding to leave led staff to decide to keep Hansen. Can’t make this up

It DI athletics. GRANTED, I would have liked to have kept both Hansen and Cuff; especially since there are 15 spots. I mean, Cuff can still change his mind. He hasn't signed, since he is still on a mission. Cuff gets home next month. Don't give up until the ink is dry on the page.

However, it is pretty awesome what coach did. Duft would never have done that. Show up at a guys house to see him as he gets home. Kinda reminds me of Ric Majerus (hopefully he isn't traumatizing like Ric). That Majerus would visit his players on their missions and have lunch with them.

As for remaining recruits, I agree with Olds. Two bigs and a wing would make the most sense.

Anyone have any updates on our former players? Where they are headed, etc?
 
U of Washington and Kansas State have had conversations with Saine. On3 has him listed as the 10th best player still available in the portal as of yesterday. Gomma signed with the U, Anthony More signed with Cal Poly. That's about it. WSU is definitely trading up with most of these players, although I would like to see Saine return for his senior year, along with Vil.

Had a good conversation about some of the guys who chose to go into the portal. The discussion centered around, who would you take back, if any would come back. For me, I would take Suarez. With good coaching and a different offensive game plan, he could really develop into something special. Though, I get it. You have a year left, might as well try and get paid.

Of course Saine, but that isn't happening. Right now, he isn't an NBA guy. This is his chance to get a really nice pay day. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets over 100K+ next year.

Vartiainen can shoot and when healthy has the potential to become a really good defender. Whiting is okay and could become that all important glu-guy. Suarez, Whiting and Vartiainen would bring depth and needed experience. However, I'm sure the sun has set on any of these guys coming back.
 
Yes on Suarez, Vili is already gone, Whiting is injury prone, Hennig if he had an outside shot. Yes on Duce. No on Hansen. We have traded up on most of those guys already. No need to bring back a bench warming problem. Actually, I'm okay if they don't sign anyone else.

I completely agree, we never would have saw Duft travel to anything outside of a game he was in the area for to see a player.

I actually wouldn’t be shocked if Saine got paid over $100k depending on who actually wants him. There are a lot of schools throwing loads of money to players that aren’t worth it. Saine is a solid player, not worth $100k but I’m not sure 99% of players are worth that much
