I don't want to be down on the basketball program, but the players deserved a press release from Coach Rahe, not a reporter at ESPN. Seems unprofessional.

Need to be as professional on departures as we were in announcing that they joined the program. I completely understand that this is a tough business, but communications is key! Obviously if Goodman was able to report that they were transferring then communication is being handle at a different level. Good luck to both and thanks for their contributions at Weber State!

Meow...not trying to be a real doosh here (the Sac fans will disagree) but I don't think any program has a press conference for departing players. There is usually a statement from the athletics department, but that is about it for players transferring. Departing players who are going into the NBA Draft have a press conference, but that is a totally different situation.

I worry about the last scholarship. I'm thinking that the 3rd player to leave will be Van Pelt. I feel badly for him, and wish he could stay, but it is the nature of the game.

I've heard that Rahe always looks for transfers. I hope we are looking for transfers who can play the PF or C position. We are getting rather thin there.
Johnathan Williams III from Missouri would be a decent addition.

Next season is a major change in the roster with half of our scholarship players have not played 1 minute of basketball in an official Weber State game! I like our talent and hope everything comes together quickly. We have 4 starters with tons of experience and one potential starter that hasn't played a second.

We will not be favored to win the conference so expectations will be a lot different than this season. It's probably going to be a very short bench, but the league has change with graduations, transfers and new freshman. I see us as being competitive, but in the middle of the pack in the BSC.

Very early look with a lot that can change. A lot depends on how our Bigs play next year and if Rahe tries that small ball stuff again. You don't know what he's going to do until next year. He hasn't focused on recruiting bigs at all!

Hurts to put SUU but they beat us soundly twice last year. Lost Hanks who didn't contribute much!

I don't see that happening at all. I think we will be right back competing for a top three finish. I'm not sure that we have the depth of experience to take the championship, but all things are possible.

Also, I am not understanding why some posters have said that Randy hasn't recruited any bigs. We lost one big man in Hajek, and we will have three new bigs available on the roster in the fall. Looks to me like that situation has been addressed. Granted, none of the three new bigs have any D1 game experience, but two of them were 3 star recruits while the other was highly recruited in his own right. I don't think that the roster is as bare as some are making it out to be.

As far as the 13 = 13 deal, there were two walk on players who were given scholarships last fall. They were told, last fall, that it would not be continued on to the next year. At least that is the way I understand it. We had one senior, Hajek, and we are aware of the two JCs leaving the program. That makes 5 open spots and we have 6 incoming players. By my math, that means there will be one additional player transferring out, that we have not yet heard of. I'm sure that player knows and that we all will know soon. :wall:

Scratch, we have different definition of bigs. I agree that Braxton is a big and will be a bruiser, but the freshman at 6'10" 200 lbs will need some weight to compete at the 5 spot. The other new recruits are better suited for the 4 spot at 6'7". We are going to need muscle next year as we got punked in the paint last season.

Also, what's your early prediction for top five in the conference next season?

Actually, the 6'7'' kid is the beefiest of them all. He is an 18 year old with a very mature body. He can bang with anyone on our team right now. The 6'10'' kid does need to put a little weight on, but he is quite skilled. Braxton is going to surprise a lot of people by how he looks and plays next fall.

I may change my mind later, but this would be my top teams right now.

1) Montana
2) Eastern Washington
3) Weber State
4) Northern Arizona
5) Sac State
6) Northern Colorado
7) Southern Utah

The next 5 are a crap shoot.

5th place will not cause Rahe his job. Let's be realistic. This will be an ok team, but not a great team. Our starting 5 will be strong, but they're going to have to play a ton of minutes to allow us to move into the top 3 in the conference.

EWU and Montana will be very strong, SUU seems ready for a breakthrough and are going to be interesting in conference play. Weber had a tough time with SUU and right now I have SUU 3rd in the conference next season.

I wish Rahe didn't use the young term over and over because next year it's for real! We will be a better team than last season, but we might be an eight deep team. We could get some surprise from some of our freshman, red shirts and transfers...... But other teams are improving too.

It's going to be fun!

If Weber and Rahe decide to bring in a transfer (I hope it is a big man), in all likelihood, that guy will have to sit for a year. While he is sitting it won't, from the conversation I've had with other forum members and posts on this board, necessarily use up a scholarship. Then again, who knows. This is something compliance can chime in on, if he would like. He has kinda disappeared lately.

I'm not really sure if we are or aren't looking for a big, but I am worried that we are thin at that position. Yes, we have Braxton and Dallas coming in and Nzekwesi is quite the physical specimen for being 18. Yet, none of them have played a min of DI basketball or even know "the system." I've heard that the plan, it can change, is to start Bolomboy at the 4 and Braxton at the 5. Yes, we all know that Hill could play the 3, but I'm pretty sure Rahe is going to bring him off the bench and have him back up Joel. I'm sure that Joel will back up Braxton. Joel is going to play 35+ a game next year. To me, I would love to have Dallas red shirt, but who knows what will happen. I really liked how Hill ended the season. He really upped his game and started to play to his potential. It wasn't the easiest season for Kyndahl. He kept having to move from the 4 to the 3 and back again to the 4. That is a hard thing to do in Rahe's system. But, I think he got comfortable with it by the end of the season. Hopefully, he uses that and grows off of it. I feel that Richardson can play either the 2 or 3, same with Gittens, Baker, Williams, and Jefferson. Weber has Senglin at the one with either Cannon or Hunter backing him up. To me, the Cats have plenty of guards. Weber really needs another 4 or 5 for depth.

This is where people get after you youngguns. It is all the " I'm hearing" and "sources are telling me". Sure that looks like the starting five but I'm sure the coaching staff hasn't said that. We still don't know who else is transferring out. It is best if we don't make assumptions.

Right, it would be nice if everyone just gave THEIR opinion since that's all anyone is doing anyway. All the "I've heard" or "I'm hearing" amounts to is that they agree with someone else's opinion. If the info is coming from Rahe or his staff, then say so, otherwise, all we hear is the same thing we hear from a Rahe interview: nothing. I find it hard to believe that Rahe has set the starting lineup in April in the first place but then again I'm not hanging out in the Student Union building either.

I'm not on anyone's staff, I haven't heard a darn thing, don't want to hear a flippin thing, and have nothing but opinions.

Using every last ounce of common sense, my wife will allow me to have, it is my opinion that the only two starting positions locked in stone are Bolomboy and Senglin. After that, it will be heavy, heavy competition for everything else. I say that for two primary reasons. First, we had a horrific year, with players playing out of position and struggling to adjust. Second, We have a good recruiting class coming in with enough talent to win some playing time. We will see two or more freshmen getting significant playing time. Some have the potential to start. I don't think that the starting lineup will be decided until November. Much may be decided on how players condition and develop over the summer. If some of our newcomers are ready to hit the ground running, in the fall, who knows how big their role might be.
