Well...here we go. Ready or not, time to play. Weird how basketball seasons has silently crept up on us this year. Hoping Jerrick is ready to go next Friday but at the same time, fine if he needs more time to recover. I’m pretty sure he won’t be playing on Friday though.

So starting 5:
John
Davis
Barns
Kozak
Zdor

First in? Fuller, KJ, Galuppo and Morris (thinking Bouki is still out too and Jordan will RS).

I was pretty impressed with the win yesterday. Yes the competition wasn’t the best but our best player was out too. That’s a loss of 18-22 points.

Where is Nero?

Transferring out

I didn't know and was really excited to see him continue to grow as a player.

Obviously this is a late transfer decision as he is mid-semester and basically loses this year. Anybody with a backstory to this, I would appreciate hearing it!

Nero is a great kid and a good player. It is simply a playing time issue. He does not lose a year. He can even preserve his RS year if he chooses to go the JC route. I feel that it was a wise choice for him and I wish him all the best where ever he goes. :coffee:

If it is just a playing time issue, why doesn't he red-shirt at Weber and wait for Harding to graduate...that would open up playing time for him....he is going to have to sit one year no matter what unless he is granted a waiver...Just wondering...

This is an excellent point. Randy has always been, almost to a fault, honest with his players. If a younger guy is better then that guy plays. I’m sure that fairly consistent across DI Basketball though. So, nothing peculiar about that. It’s how Randy frames his message once that happens. Some coaches string out their kids, Randy won’t. Also, maybe recruits have already come in who could take future mins and that helped him make his decision. Who knows...I for one really liked Nero and wish him nothing but the best. Even though he entered the portal, it doesn’t mean he can’t stay if he decides to. A red shirt year might be good.

It's really quite easy to do the math on playing time. There are 120 minutes of PT to split between 3 positions. The three starters are going to get between 25 and 35 minutes every game. That accounts for
75 to 105 of those minutes. The fourth guard is going to get 15 to 25 minutes. The fifth guard is going to get 5 to 15 minutes. The sixth guard will get what ever is left. If there is a seventh or eighth guard, they will only get minutes when injuries happen, if then. Most teams don't play more than 6 guards. If you are an established player and new players come in and push you into the sixth or seventh guard position, you are not going to see much PT. This kind of thing happens all the time and accounts for many of the transferring players around the country. Caleb is a good player and could probably start on most BSC teams. We just happen to be loaded at guard right now. Where ever he lands, that school will be getting a high quality person and player. :coffee:

Olds, you didn't address my question, just danced around it.....Harding and John, who will be getting the majority of the minutes at guard, will both graduate.....using your easy math, that will open up at least 65 to 70 minutes per game next season....Why not red shirt and stay at Weber because he will have to sit a year either way? I think there is something other than just playing time coming into play here.....Maybe, just maybe, you don't know why he is transferring, just making up whatever comes to your mind.....

Three freshmen guards and a transfer have come in and proved themselves to be better or equal to Caleb. The obvious answer is that he would still be the 6th or 7th guard next year and beyond. Like I said, we are loaded at the guard positions.

After going to the line a mere 45 times last night (MSU got 26 freebies...what a terrible game to watch), USU was finally able to dispose of a pesky Bobcat team. Harld Frey had one hell of a game and the Bobcat defense seemed up to the challenge of limiting USU.

Couple of quick observations...MSU is definitely not being coach by Brian Fish anymore. However, I really don't see the Bobs as being one of the top programs in the Sky this season. They can only ride Frey's game so far. They really don't have any other options. But, are they better than advertised? Yes, I think so. Sprinkle is a good coach and will get the most out of his kids and with Frey, they will have a better than average season.

Next observation; however, USU, sans Quetta, is definitely not as good as advertised. Merrill will continue to do his thing. He causes so many problems and is such a smart basketball player. Yet, without the two headed monster of Merrill and Quetta (Sp?) the Aggies are fairly one-dimensional. They do have some other players, but not #17 in the nation good type players.

Do I think Weber does better on Friday than previously expected? Yes...too bad Harding won't be available though. With Jerrick, and if Quetta isn't playing again, I would expect a far closer game. Would love to get a W in Logan on Friday. Defense and rebounding are key. I know we can score, but we have to limit Merrill and make another Aggie beat us. Our young bigs will be expected to grow up quick.

What's wrong with Harding?

He hurt his foot in September and needed surgery. From what I have heard, he has been practicing, but limited. He's definitely is out right now.

There is certainly no rush to bring Harding back. They will want him at 100%. In the mean time, everybody else gets better and that makes us a better team in the long run. These young athletes respond fast to rehabilitation and training, so I would expect him back sometime in November.

Both teams will be without their best player. This should be a good game. Is it televised anywhere?

There's a streaming link on the Mountain West Conference site. I'm assuming, hoping it works.

I take it back, I'm sorry the stream works; this is pathetic. I watched most of the MSU@USU game earlier in the week. The Bobs competed the entire game, even had a chance to get the upset. I guess maybe this might balance out when Weber gets to their home schedule  :ohno:

This has to be the worst team during the Rahe tenure. Almost as many TOs as points. We look like a non D1 cupcake tonight.
