#1 Eastern Washington Eagles (2-0, 0-0 BSC) vs. Washington Huskies (1-0, 0-0 PAC-12)

Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 • 12:07 p.m. Pacific
Husky Stadium (70,138) • Seattle, Wash.

TV: Pac-12 Network
Radio: 700 ESPN (EWU)
Webcast: http://www.pac-12.com/live" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (must be Pac-12 Networks subscriber)

Athletics: GoEags.com | GoHuskies.com
Twitter: @ewuathletics | @UWAthletics
Fan Forums: EWU Redzone | Hardcore Husky

Series: UW leads 1-0
Last Meeting: 2011 - UW won 30-27 in Seattle, WA.

This week's game is being televised nationally on the Pac-12 Networks, interestingly, by the same crew that worked last year's season-opening 49-46 victory at No. 25 Oregon State. That victory was just the fourth time an FCS school has defeated a ranked FBS team, and the Eagles may get a chance to be the fifth this season.

Fans may also listen to the EWU-UW game live regionally on 700-AM ESPN and via the web at http://www.700espn.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, with pre-game coverage starting 1 1/2 hours prior to kickoff.

"We're excited and appreciative of the opportunity to play the Huskies again," said head coach Beau Baldwin, who grew up in nearby Tacoma, Wash. "Over half of our roster is from the Puget Sound area and 70 percent of our players are from the state of Washington. So it's a great opportunity to play in a game like this in front of family and friends, to play an incredible Pac-12 program and to play at an incredible place. Most of our coaching staff is also from the Seattle area, so we all grew up watching the Huskies and were around their program. This game has a special meaning to it a number of ways."

Favorite places to watch in Spokane (or Valley?)

I've been to the Ref for several games on Sprague, and it was fun enough, and beer/food specials were great during the "power hour" from 2-4 or so. Seems more like 2 hours to me.

Under Chow, Hawaii has moved to a much more balanced pro-style offense. It's a far cry from the run-and-shoot days of June Jones and Greg McMackin, who were disciples of the creator of the run-and-shoot, Mouse Davis.

Not a huge surprise given their performance. What was most surprising about that Hawaii game was the lopsided TOP. Isn't Hawaii a pass every down type of offense?

Thanks, I wasn't aware that they had changed their offensive schemes. Doesn't seem too long ago that they were going five wide on every play and slinging the ball around.

If anyone is interested in the Tri-Cities that can't make the game, I'm trying to get a few folks out to Sam's to watch. Kimo's does not carry the Pac-12 network.

Uncle Sam's Saloon?

That was one of the first places I bought a beer when I turned 21. Right after O'Dougherty's in Spokane I think.

I just called Sam's to confirm they could get the game... Screamin Eagle will be there. :thumb:

In the SR today: Key #2 = Baffle 'em with BS. Pretty sure the UW coaching staff is at a disadvantage with this type of misinformation being slung around. It reminds me of '44 at Normandy. :sarcasm:

Keys to today’s EWU-UW game

For Eastern Washington:

• Minimizing turnovers. It’s an obvious goal, but one that eluded the Eagles here in 2011 on both offense and special teams, and again last week when they put the ball on the ground five times against Montana Western. “We can’t do that again,” Adams said this week.

Stopping the big pass play. That also means run support in a game that figures to see Washington try to establish its ground game. “They have great speed, so we have to take some sharper angles (in pursuit),” defensive coordinator John Graham said.

For Washington:

• Containing EWU QB Vernon Adams. Oregon State’s base 4-3 scheme failed miserably last year, but in the two games that followed, Toledo and Sam Houston State found some success with mixed coverages, almost always out of nickel and dime packages, and with frequent blitzes.

• Getting up to speed for UW QB Cyler Miles. He’s a proven runner, but missed spring ball and the Hawaii opener while suspended, and it’s unclear how much of the playbook he’s mastered in fall camp.
