$20,000 Pizza Giveaway!

I'm starting to enjoy the spin put on the promotions by the marketing department.

If Kobayashi eats 2 pizzas, they will "give away $20,000 dollars worth of pizza!" This turns out to be a coupon for $5 off of an online order over $15.

"Giving away a new car for every viking touchdown!" turned out to be a two year lease.

Not sure these promotions actually caused anyone to show up and pay $29+ who weren't already coming to the games. But if anyone did, I'm guessing they weren't happy.

Makes me a little concerned about what the "Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders" will turn out to be.

Two things on this kind of marketing. Lies lead to the distrust of those being lied to, and marketers playing their target market as saps is scum-of-the-earth behavior. It needs to stop and prizes need to be advertised for what they really are.

A two-years lease with accountability for any damage is a decent enough prize. A $5 off coupon probably is not. Remember this song by the Knickerbockers? The amazing thing is they sound just like the Beatles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n03a7cLf0M

Saying you're "giving away" a new car is different than leasing it for two years. I lease my apartment, I don't own it. A chance at winning a new car sounds a lot like I would own it, and not have to figure out how to pay for it two years down the road. The off chance that I would have "won" the car, I was planning on selling it (or donate it to Goodwill), but being locked in to a lease would have prevented that. If it was truly mine, I could do whatever with it, right?

Regarding the pizza promotion, where have I heard $20,000 before? Hmmmm... :-?

I came across the flyer that I still had from the Cal Davis game listing all of the year's promotions, and after the first few promotions being so misleading, I thought at least they can't mislead you with "Get a Coupon for a Free Turkey". Well, I showed up today and wasn't given a coupon, and the guy handing out a discounted round of golf had no idea what I was talking about.

Here are the last 5 promotions that Hersh's group has advertised:

- A legends game that was canceled for "logistical reasons" and rescheduled for the day of the Cal Davis game which never happened.
- A misleading car lease giveaway.
- A misleading pizza coupon giveaway.
- A turkey giveaway that never happened.

In a desperate financial situation, they have a 5 year deal with this clown!
