2009 Football Media Guide/Program

Anyone know when the 2009 football media guide will be out? I've heard that the SID may not even publish one this year. What's up with that? I want to know about my team and the new freshmen coming in. I want some new info about our current players and not just a rehashing of the same stuff that's been published for the past several years.
Also, I've visited other Big Sky team sites and they've already updated their rosters for 2009. We still have our 2008 roster posted.
Come on, when is UNC going to to look and act like it's a division 1 program?

Yeah, it is lame when we don't even have our roster online. Just when you wanna get excited for football we don't even know who our team is and it's less than a month until camp starts. LAME!

I definitely understand some of your frustrations. I know how slow the summer feels (trust me: we go a million miles an hour in this office for 10 months and then ... just ... stop in June and July). We do have some updates up, though. Volleyball, men's basketball (to this point) are new, and schedules for volleyball, football and soccer are available, too. Men's basketball is very close (and there are some nice surprises on that).

I can only offer this: Downing and his assistants are doing basically everything they can to get our roster to a level that resembles a Division I program (and considering what he had to start with, it's understandable that it takes time). To that end, additions and subtractions are still being made. At this point, our roster is still too much in flux to publish. And that's a good thing. Trust me. Besides, not all Big Sky rosters are updated (Montana, for instance), so it's not out of the norm. It is frustrating, though. And we're working on it.

On the media guide front: It's true we are not publishing media guides this year. Everybody and their mother is going this direction (http://www.texastech.com/genrel/071309aaa.html), and the 2010-11 season will most likely include an NCAA mandate as such. You all probably know that we just don't have a lot of media in our area (Greeley Tribune, Mirror ... sometimes Windsor Beacon) who actually would use a media guide. So, it was just a waste of money for us anyway. We will however have all the information that would be included in a media guide available on our Web site (with the potential for even more because we'll have more time to devote to each and every one of our student-athletes). This will also allow us (the media relations office, funds, etc.) to devote more time to all our sports -- not just the top-tier programs. And that's the hallmark of a true Division I program.

Thanks for the response Scott. I for one, am looking forward to some in depth information about the young men in our football program and if it's going to be online instead of in a magazine I'm ok with that. Also, will there be information about who the returning letter winners are from last season?

How is this a good thing?

I don't know if I agree that the program was worse off before Downing got here, the records from year to year would not support that assertion... and 1-10, 1-11, 1-10 is a disgrace.

Sorry, guys, but I won't get involved in an argument of opinion. That's for you all to do. :)

All I can do is enter in every now and then and provide some facts. I wasn't here when Downing started (I was too busy hoping Chase Daniel wasn't too good to be true), so I can't say what the program was like. I can say, however, that, like all of our programs, he had to face a Division I schedule with a Division II roster.

That's it.

The fact that our roster isn't set for publication yet is a reflection of that. This, Downing's fourth season, serves as the final infusion of Division I talent. The very first practice of a very long preseason is still three weeks away. The roster will be out before then, and you all will still have a month to pour over it and perceive it how you will.

Have some patience and enjoy the summer.

What I interpret Scott's comments to mean when he says the roster is still in a state of flux is that some current players are not going to be invited back for the start of fall camp and some may be leaving to go to another program. Also, the coaching staff may be trying to bring in some other players who may not be happy with their current FBS situations and may want to play in the FCS without having to sit out a year (ie Waggener). They may also be looking at some JC players who could step in right away and contribute. I could be way off base here but that's my assumption.

Are there some good additions, and few subtractions??

I guess the good thing is I haven't heard or read anything on the trib or anywhere else that has said anything about players leaving. Unless anyone else has heard anything on here? I know if a player leaves the team their name is gone pretty quick off the roster.

I know its hard to watch your favorite team do so bad the last couple years, believe me when I say I know what a bad season is being a Wildcat fan, but just give it time, you are new to the FCS, and its hard to just spring into contention, look at Weber, it took them 40 years to win thier 3rd Big Sky title. Your team is getting better every year despite thier record, alot of your losses came within 7 or less points. If you can hold on to those wins, then UNC is looking at 5 to 6 wins.

Dont lose hope.
