We are also scheduled to play FBS UNLV.

Glad to hear again about UNLV. Given continued improvement, that should be a winnable game, especially since Mr. U$C is gone.

9/5/09 UNLV. Labor Day weekend in Vegas, sounds like a great road trip!

The radio crew said that the Causeway will be the last game of the season next year. Great time to sell out Hornet Stadium! By the way yesterday's crowd of 10,500 for Northern Colorado was larger than the Davis Causeway "sell out" of 10,300.

Unless we make the playoffs, I'd dearly love to see Causeway played on Thanksgiving. I've been wanting to play in a Thanksgiving Day game that actually counted (scrums with friends in the back yard don't count) for years.

It will never be scheduled like that because the playoffs always start the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The only way to play on T-Day against them is if both programs move to FBS.

Never say never. USD was scheduled for a game at the Manure Pile the Saturday after Thanksgiving a couple of years ago. The game was cancelled a few days before it was played, and USD failed to make the playoffs (I think).

Such scheduling would be a risk, even in FBS if we end up in a divided conference that has a title game. That risk would be having to cancel to accommodate the playoffs and therefore losing a valued rivalry game, or turning into the Ivies.

But never say never.

As long as we are in the Big Sky Conference, we will never. Period. The Sky does not schedule games that weekend because of the NCAA Tournament.

Ok, so this is what we know of the schedule at this point. We open the season Labor Day weekend at UNLV. The UNC game is Nov. 7 and its been reported that Causeway is the last weekend of the year (Sat. Nov. 21). That and its back to an 11 game sked for FCS next year.

Home:
Montana
Eastern Washington
Idaho State
Northern Arizona
ucdavis

Road:
UNLV
Portland State
Weber State
Montana State
Northern Colorado

That only leaves one game left. Personally, I liked to see Cal Poly back on the schedule. They will have to reload a lot of their key positions and that could be a very winnable game for us. I would love for us to have the game at home to give us that sixth home game, but I'd go down to SLO to see the other "Spanos" stadium.

I looked up Sac's schedule and found it.

Sept 5th- @ UNLV
Sept 12th- OPEN
Sept 19th- OPEN
Sept 26th- Eastern Washington
Oct 3rd- @ Portland State
Oct 10th- Idaho State
Oct 17th- @ Weber State
Oct 24th- Montana
Oct 31st- Northern Arizona
Nov 7th- @ Northern Colorado
Nov 14th- @ Montana State
Nov 21st- UC-Davis

I believe SUU still has an open date, it wont be Cal Poly, cause Cal Poly completed their schedule by playing Weber State. North and South Dakota still need games to complete thier schedules. And I also think San Diego still needs a game.

Anybody coming to Stewart Stadium Oct 17th?

I've heard a rumor that we are looking at filling the Sept. 12 date with Humboldt State again...don't know how much legs this has...HHD, do you have any insight to this?

Scheduling down following an FBS school is probably a wise decision, followed by a bye then jumping into conference play. I like the look of the schedule.

I like the idea of playing Homboldt State again, there was a good turnout at that game. Wasnt there 10k people there? Plus it's a nice in-state rivalry, even if they are a DII program.

I'm not sure I like this. We're going to be at a competitive disadvantage if we can't get one of those open dates filled. In addition, regardless of which one is filled, that leaves a bye WAY too early in the season. We'll likely need it about a month later to recover from injuries.

That said, I like scheduling UNLV. That's a winnable game, and we'll get FBS credit for it come playoff time. I'm looking (optimistically, mind you) at 9-1 just on the games presented. You certainly know who I'm predicting for that one loss.

Besides, I think this might be the year I was predicting for our national championship. Anyways, it's either this year or next year. Let's go get it.

I like the optimism SH but its time for some brutal reality:

UNLV is turning things around under Mike Sanford. They did beat a highly over-rated Arizona State team(#15 at the time), but none-the-less it’s still a PAC 10 team (5-0 in bowl games). I think it will be a close game but in the end the Hornets run out of steam resulting in another season opening loss. (0-1, 0-0)

Assuming Humboldt State is scheduled in game #2, this will be the first win of the season. (1-1, 0-0)

I’m hoping that Sac State can open conference play with a win over EWU, but it should be a close one. For the sake of argument, I’ll be a homer and go with a Sac State win. (2-1, 1-0)

Game #4 will be an indication on how the season will go for the Hornets, but given that it’s a road game, anything can happen. We experienced this kind of a let down during the ISU game last year. However, the Hornets hang tough and pull together to squeak out a road win. (3-1, 2-0)

Game #5 will be Sac State getting revenge for last years embarrassing season finale with a dominating win over the ISU Bengal’s. (4-1, 3-0)

Games #6 & #7 will a negative turning point for the season with two lopsided losses for the Hornets. The first will be on the road against a tough Weber State team and the second will be a home loss to the dominant Montana Grizzlies. Both teams will be looking to repeat as Big Sky Champs. (4-3, 3-2)

Game #8 will be a must win at home against NAU if they want to salvage the season. The Hornets get it together and slug out a home win against an aggressive team, giving new meaning to the season. (5-3, 4-2)

Game #9 will be a huge road win in Northern Colorado as the team rides the momentum gained in the NAU game and look to make a statement in the Big Sky. (6-3, 5-2)

Game #9 will be a tremendous disappointment as the Hornets can not overcome the elements and travel in a mid-November game at Montana State. (6-4, 5-3)

And finally in the most important game of the year, the Hornets take all their season long frustrations and anger out on an over-matched and injury ridden ucd team who early in the season lost most of their key starters in two embarrassing losses to Boise State and Fresno State. Sac State goes on to completely destroy ucd by three touchdowns (Yes I said it, 3 TD’s). Sac State continues the streak of Causeway victories and in the process adds more turmoil to a program that expected to be contenders at the D1 level which further increases the jubilation and expectation of Sac State football fans.

Final season record 7-4 overall, 5-3 in conference. 8-)

Great enthusiasm SH, but I dont think its very realistic, although I hope so.

SD, great preseason predictions. I would just change one games' outcome, this year we embarrass a cocky Montana team that deserves to get stung. Down with the Griz, Go Hornets!

As far as the Causeway Classic, ucd is in a downward spiral and are about to crash, they need to prepare for the worst. But, I still think they need to be taken very seriously, after all, they do lead the all-time series in football.
