2010 Commit List

HHD, thanks for the info! That's actually more than I was expecting you to be able to say! Sounds like Bryan Hilliard and Sam McCowarn could have a pretty formidable line to run behind next year. With MBT gun slinging and Reed/Hendershott/Lane/Deadder snatching balls out of the air, this could get exciting!

Winghunter and FickyFack,

I see that an offer has been made to Charles Boyett. What are your thoughts since you both seem to have a lot on knowledge on MEL football and Napa in particular. Does he have the same high motor that his brother has? I would love to see John play QB at the college level. He was one of the most entertaining and effective high school players I have ever seen.

Same motor, but not like John. Charles will do well wherever he goes, even Davis. They will use him as a DB, but I think he should have the ball in his hands. Depending on his recovery, he could play on either side of the ball.
John made freshman All America DB at Oregon. (He also scored 5 TD's as QB of the practice squad Offense). Sperbeck should go after Johnny AND Charles Boyett.

We all know MBT probably won't be the starter, even though myself and others think he should be. I just don't know how Smith gets the start over MBT!

It will be a damn shame if MBT isn’t the starter. He at least deserves that much after the spectacle he provided during the Causeway. A damn shame I say. Well, one thing is for sure, the Hornets won’t get too far next season if they keep playing musical chairs at QB. I just saw too much inconsistency from Smith last season to put any more stock into him. He had his chances and he didn’t come through. The last thing we need to see is a continuation of the MBT vs Smith threads on this board.

Agreed :)

MBT works well behind a solid line, 3/5 linemen graduated. MBT can run as shown against Davis, but he can't do that all season. Smith can scramble, but after three years we all know he is made of glass. It really comes down to who can hold up healthwise for 11+ games.

Got news for you. Smith is retiring from football. I've heard he is done. Was not released from the team or disciplined in any way, but is choosing to retire. As some of you may know he has some physical ailments that just aren't allowing him to play at the level required any more.

So MBT has the lead, but I hear there Pete Murdaca from Delta JC has committed and we will have at least 2 other freshman QBs, so there will be plenty of competition for MBT and Carmazzi. Good competition at the position will raise the level of play there and we need that badly.

Murdaca is on pace to finish his Associate in Arts degree following this semester. He spent a year as a redshirt walk-on at Nevada before coming to Delta. He'll likely do a mid-year transfer and already has a scholarship offer from Sacramento State.

Spot on Fickyfack, Napa Coachs are reporting the same thing.... Looks like Little Boyett will be playing DB / Safety for Davis. Rumor has it they have no problem with his knee and they were willing to work with his schedule, beleive he wants to pursue med of some type.

I also heard from my Vacaville friends / Coach's that Dailey is done, he has picked some very poor roads in life.

HHD

Thank you for all the information you're sharing regarding the team and the recruiting. Great stuff.

My Two Cents regarding QB: Jason Smith deserves a standing ovation from all for the talent & leadership he brought to the program and the dedication he has shown, and playing hurt (more than we knew) for as long as he did. I wish the Davis game would have been a better experience for him as his last game. MBT showed what he can do in the second half of the Davis game. I think as he gets more time behind center, his game management and confidence will continue to get even better. He's put in his time as the back up and has proved he deserves the starting role now.

SH, that's correct. When a program pulls the plug, the players can transfer without having to sit out a year. Remember when St. Mary's shut things down? I think we got a handful of players (Ryan Coogler). As a UOP guy, I thought you'd be very familiar with this rule...

FCSFans is reporting a Hofstra transfer free of charge (i.e. no year to sit out). Anyone have details?

SH, you talking about this OLineman?

Check the first page of this thread.

I was asking more for details on who vice the rule. We got a few Pacificans, including myself and Damon Perasso, after the demise of UOP. Could you imagine our defense back then if we had found a way to snag Nigel Burton? LOL.

If Dailey is out, then we need to be looking at another RB. Even moving Badger to running back wouldn't be all bad. Having Murdaca in camp will be huge, but we still need another couple of freshmen to at least red shirt and be ready when Murdaca and MBT are gone.

Isn't Hilliard back next season?!?! If he is, he will be the starter and will continue to dominate! :D

If memory serves, he was out last season due to shoulder surgery but was expected to return next season.

Someone reported late in the season that Hilliard had healed and was working out with the team, they just didn't want to bring him in for a few games and lose a year. I would like to see Dailey come back, he had a lot of talent but Hilliard was way more productive as a power back and will have two seasons left.
I think that Hilliard would have been worth two extra wins last year.
