I've not been able to attend a fall practice as of yet, but I thought I'd take a stab at the depth chart for the defense for the coming season.
SS - Almond, Lilley
FS - Latu, Snow, Almond
CB - Shead, Davis
MLB - Rau, Shoemaker, Konrath
OLB - Macarthy, Takeno
DE - Sommer, Harris/Walters
DT - Beckley, Seuma'ala
DT - Ah Toon, Vaiese
DE - Jester, Forbes
OLB - Sisler, Brooks
CB - Williams, Ross
If Williams has made some progress, and that's a lot of progress, we have the potential to have the best cornerback unit since Dixson/Jackson. Possibly a deeper unit too.
With regards to the d-line, the questions come. I put Ah Toon in there since he's been in the program for a year, but he redshirted, and we have yet to see him in a game. If we have a couple of guys hobble off the field, we could be in real trouble.
I think we'll be fairly solid at linebacker. New system, yes, but I have a feeling that the 4-3 is a bit easier than JG's 3-4 that they've known for the past few years. Man, if we had a Worthen and Reardon on the roster, this unit may have been one best in the conference.
Safety will be interesting to watch. The talent is there, but a few questions need to be answered. What do we have in Lilley that we didn't get to see last year due to injury? Same goes for Almond.
