2010 Favorite Players Offense & Defense

This thread is dedicated to discussing your favorite player for either the offense or defense. Please give us a concise synopsis of your candidates. Obviously there are a lot of picks so do not feel bad.

Me:

Offense: I am going with Croxdale. I love watching this guy play. This guy is a barrel on legs. Croxdale was obviously a major part of the Causeway and keeping the ball out of the farm extension hands. I loved it!

Defense: Schrader is a stud. Schrader was a Patriot Missile shooting down the opponents offense all season long. They were "shredded" by Schrader.

Go Hornets!!!

Next? (Note: All aggies comments are invalid.)

Offense: Hilliard. His smash mouth running style is fun to watch. He just needs to find a way to stay healthy for the entire season.

Defense: I have to second the Schrader vote. He is a sure tackler and a solid hitter. He will be missed. A close second has to be Nash/Clark. Clark didn’t have the numbers he did a year ago but he no doubt saw plenty of double teams this season, which allowed Nash to shine.

Offense: Has to be Hilliard first... He made Jeff Fleming's job much easier and was the key to this offense. I think the Causeway is an entirely different game with him pounding away (or at least pounding away with Croxdale). The O-Line was fantastic as well too, can't believe that 4/5 are returning as well...

We lose Harrel (C), But we get back the rest of our offense (including Reed and Henderschott) and we should be SCARY next year. I do vote that we sit Hilliard (and maybe a couple other key players) in our FBS game next year. The risk/reward isn't worth it (Avery White/MBT).

Big ups to MBT for putting in the work to come back for one more year, battling through surgery and for a valiant effort on Saturday, nearly tossing a 25lb ball for a TD on our last play of the game.

Defense: Schrader, the heart and soul of the defense. What a find from a Western Washington. If their program doesn't fold, we don't have an excellent field general for 2 years. Nash was a beast too, and he'll have to work extremely hard to not get Clark'ed next season!

Agree with all the above posters, but two names have to be added one for offense and one for defense.

Chase Deadder had a phenomonal year as a receiver and Peter Buck was a linebacker who made tackles all over the field.

This same thought crossed my mind as well. I have no problem playing a payday game against a Pac-12 team, but the players that have shown they are susceptible to injuries should get minimal, if any, playing time.

Who is all applying for a medical redshirt? Hendershott, Reed, White, anyone else? Have they been granted yet or is approval still being waited on? :?:

The more I think about it, Monson is secretly a Laggie.

This was all part of the Mayan prophecy.

The guy has just let too many recievers get by on him this season. Well, that and he did give away a punt Saturday :x . I don't know if I should blame it on his size or what, sure he's quick, but recievers just out jump him and usually have a longer reach, it was dang near a miss-match whenever he was covering someone!

I don't necessarily thinks he's a bad football player, I just think he's not very good where Sperbeck has him.

He'd probably be better off at Wilkins' position as the nickel back, but dang, Wilkins was pretty darn good at that spot this year...

I can't see swtching Monson for Wilkins. Is Gordon back next season, didnt he get a medical redshirt this year?

Yeah, but if I remember correctly Gordon moved to SS and will probably fill Schrader's role from this year. You never know though. Depending on need, you could see him at CB or FS, I suppose, he's pretty versatile.

Gordon, Hendershott and Reed had never used redshirt years, so theirs are automatic. I believe that is the case with White, but its still unknown if he'll ever play again yet. Knee dislocations are very tricky.

If Monson is in the doghouse, may as well throw everyone in there. It was a team loss from the coaches on down to the waterboys…eeerrr I mean hydration engineers.
Fleming had the bad toss that gave away the early momentum.
Lane dropped the toss. (I think it was Lane, radio guy said it hit him in the facemask, for a WR that is catchable imo.)
Croxdale had a fumbled that led to a TD.
Diniz missed a PAT.
MBT botched a hold on a FG.
The OL had numerous penalties that stalled drives.
The defense blew the coverage on the first TD. Not sure which DB got burned but for a post to go for a TD means to me that a safety was caught cheating.
The offensive game plan in the second half was so predictable that the ags were brining 8/9 guys in the box. Yes I realize most of this was due to the weather but I have to think a WR bubble screen or a RB screen could be thrown regardless of the wind and rain.

Take your pick. Mistakes were the difference; there is plenty of blame to go around. The coaches and players need to learn from these mistakes and make sure they never let a winnable game slip through their hands again. The main thing to note is this team will be stacked next year and any excuses for lack of execution will not be acceptable.

watching the reply of Saturday's game on TV, Schrader was the best player on the field, by far. that guy was everywhere. two big plays (blocked punt and an interception), and numerous tackles, many one-on-one that stopped potential decent plays (including on a naked boot-leg on 3rd and goal before the FG....TD there would have about sealed it).

True about Fleming and the coaching, but in defense of my singling out of Monson, Fleming had a ruptured tendon (or something like that) and the coaches seemed to call the the plays necessary toward the last few minutes of the game. Monson failed in a clutch situation and has shown all season long that he cannot keep up or beat out many of our opponents' WR's.

I didnt say Monson was a bad athlete, just a little irritated with a guy who makes the same mistakes and gets burned all season long. The muffed punt was just icing on the cake.

But you're right, there were many mistakes during the game, however, none stand out more than the muffed punt or the failure to defend UCFE's WR's the way they should have been in that game.

So how long did the coaches play Fleming with this injury? WTF were they thinking. Why would the coaches handicap their play calling by playing a guy who limits what the offense could do? That is a terrible decision by the coaches and that definitely played a part in this. It’s very disappointing that the coaches would make this decision especially with an experienced QB available (MBT). Wow.

Perhaps that's why he didn't attempt a throw in the second half until the second to last series. He threw probably the worst ball I've EVER seen from any QB. Then he jogged back to the sideline and shook his head at Sperbeck pretty much saying, "I can't throw it coach"... Anyone else see that?

MBT had us marching, too bad...
