2010 Recruiting Thread

Coach Simmons was at Skyline HighSchool today (3 peat WA State Champs) in Sammamish, WA. Several D-1 players on the roster. He spoke with Jase Butorac (OL), and re-comfirmed PSU's offer. Butorac has 6 total offers. Other players were Dematteo (MLB), Pelluer (DE), Day (DT/OG), but probably missed out on QB Heaps (BYU) and WR Williams (16 offers).

I know Heaps is ranked at #1QB in the nation and Williams, as a Junior, will more than likely be a 5 star blue chip recruit, I was only kidding! But the rest of the guys mentioned in Butorac, DeMatteo, Pelluer and Day are legit, all have D-1 offers, and guys to build a program around, IMO! These guys won 3 state titles and went 40-2 in their highschool career. They also shutout Sheldon 21-0 in 2008 and Jesuit 17-0 in 2009, the two teams that played for the Oregon 6A Title this year. Lowe (UW commit) had 23 rushing yards against these 4 Skyline guys. Worth a look IMO!!

Looks like Coach Burton and the Viks have their second verbal commitment:

A.J. Powell - DB - Charter Oak HS, Covina, California

Looks like a good pickup.

Those were some much bigger programs that we seemed to have beat out.

He must not like what he saw in Colorado. You rarely see PSU beat out Big12 schools for recruits, but hey I'll take it. :D

Football season is way too far away.

From the Portland Tribune article:

"Burton expects to gain three transfers from D-I schools and has signed Manoa Latu, a 6-1, 205-pound safety from Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. Another Mt. SAC player, 6-5, 330-pound O-tackle Bruce Seumanutafa, has committed.

The Vikings also have verbals from Jamil Austin, a 5-9, 180-pound tailback who rushed for 2,080 yards and was conference offensive player of the year at Colony High in Ontario, Calif.; Taylor Meyrick, a 6-5, 260-pound tight end from Oregon City; Devin Topps, a 6-1, 210-pound linebacker from Kent, Wash., and James Seumaala, a 5-10, 235-pound D-lineman from Federal Way, Wash."

Here's a couple Jamil Austin highlight videos I found:

Ross transferring to Portland State

http://oregonstate.scout.com/a.z?s=182&p=9&c=2&cid=941889&nid=4271770&fhn=1

Oregon State cornerback David Ross is transferring to Portland State, the Portland Tribune reported.

Ross, a four star recruit out of Dominguez High, never panned out as he was buried on the depth chart and played sparingly on special teams.

The 6-foot, 180-pound player made just one tackle during his career in Corvallis.

Ross' departure opens up one additional scholarship.

So much for not bringing in the talent. The secondary should be stacked for Coach B. He's gotta be thrilled about that opportunity. We'll have to see how the rest of the roster fills out as fall approaches, but I'm liking the signs so far.

Not sure why Ross wasn't playing at all at OSU, but sure sounds like he is talented. I just read that out of high school he originally had a verbal commitment with Nebraska before signing with the Beavs. This was on scouts.com from a few years ago: "A four-star prospect, Ross has great size and is one of the best pure lock-down corners in California"

I'm sure I'm getting WAY ahead of myself, but imagine having a lock down corner on one side and DeShawn Shead on the other....

Given his national reputation coming out of high school, you have to wonder why he didn't play much after spending a year redshirting. Too many good CBs in front of him? That good?? Well, he'll finally be able to prove or not his reputation. PSU - the last chance.

Granite Bay High School halfback DeVaunte Bolton verbally committed to Portland State.

Either these kids are slipping through the cracks, or Burton is raiding Nevada's recruiting class. One way or the other, this class is impressive thus far. We needed to load up at RB, and he is doing just that.

Only video on DeVaunte Bolton I could find. The video are 2006 highlights, Devaunte's freshman year:

Big quarterback Chad Dashnaw has decided to attend Portland State. He had been awaiting an offer from San Jose State, but that fell through. Big time commitment for the Viks!

Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne quarterback Chad Dashnaw commits to Portland State...

Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne quarterback Chad Dashnaw is headed to play in the Big Sky.
"I went on my official visit to Portland State and they offered me and that was pretty cool," said Dashnaw. "I did commit."

Dashnaw liked what he saw from new head coach Nigel Burton's program.

"I really enjoyed my trip and all of the coaches, and the school is great," said Dashnaw.

Dashnaw was 235-for-325 for 3,475 yards with 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He ran for 400 yards on 82 carries and scored nine times. He was named the Marine League Offensive Player of the Year.
