2010 Schedule

If the dates work out right, would anyone object to playing the Manure Pile twice? That could be an easy way out of the situation for not much in terms of expenditures.

I strongly object to playing ANY team twice in the regular season. Why would fans want to see that? Is it that hard to schedule 3 non-conference teams every season?!?

Thats what the directional oregons and washington's do, along with humboldt. Why not get a HBSU to ocme out west like CP did with NC Central? Or even Grambling, they would draw good and they are looking for a new coach, so they are down.

Tooting my own horn here for a second, I was offered a partial scholarship to play at Grambling. BTW, yes, I used to be able to throw a pig skin a quarter-mile.

GCM, the schools you mentioned play each other more than once because they are all D-II and have no other regional D-II schools to schedule. Also I think it is a cost saving measure so they don’t have to travel ridiculous miles to schedule other D-II schools. Budgets are slim and I believe they do this to stay afloat. Also with Western Washington folding its program, this caused them to lose another opponent for scheduling purposes.

I agree with SDHornet, why not schedule a FCS Team to help position for a potential playoff invitation? If they schedule a DII team and with an expected loss to Stanford, The Hornets would have to go 7-2 the remainder of the season. I don't see how that's realistic!

This is a time the AD and Sperbeck need to put Sac in a position to be successful and make a playoff run!!

The DII's have added Simon Fraser a canadian school sanctioned to play in the NCAA.

I love the game between the Mustangs and the Hornets, but the Hornets already have one school they play every year out of conference, ucd. Adding Poly to the schedule every year would make things stale in my opinion.

I like the freedom of being able to schedule OOC match-ups that arent seen that often, unfortunately, they dont happen that often.

I do, however, think Poly should be on the schedule at least every other year.

I agree, maybe we could play Poly the years that we have 12 games. Aside from that we only have one flex game per year because of the 8 BSC, 1 FBS game and davis locked in. Poly should look at schools like NAU, Portland State etc. for a ongoing series. Those schools don't have a traditional non BSC rival although they sometimes play two FBS games, so they are probally looking for another home date.

Honestly, I would really prefer seeing us play a mid level Southland, MVC, CAA or Southern conference member. OR I could see picking up a very low level FBS team like NMSU,Western KY, Eastern MI. I think we have players that are beyond the fragileness of a beatdown on a DII to get a win. You only get better by playing the better teams. And as commented previously, would count towards getting a playoff berth.

Well it looks like landing a game with SUU or USD on 9/11 is out of the cards now. Unless they schedule SUU on 10/16, it looks like a non-counter D-II team will be scheduled. The D-II game will further reduce the chances of making it to the playoffs next year.

If we absolutely HAVE to go D-II, then maybe scheduling Grand Valley or Texas A&I might help. The only problem with that is that they'll likely go for Humboldt or Chico again to control costs. Maybe one of the directional Oregons or Washingtons if we're lucky.

I couldn’t disagree more SH. If the Hornets schedule a D-II, it needs to be against a winnable opponent and it needs to be someone that might have a chance at drawing 10k people. The only D-II opponent that fits that criterion is Humboldt State. Next on the list would be a directional Oregon followed by a directional Washington. I’d still rather see an FCS opponent above all else, but it looks like that dream is fading fast. There is nothing positive about scheduling a D-II “powerhouse” as the win still wouldn’t count towards the playoffs, and a loss to a D-II opponent is just down right embarrassing. Just ask “the farm extension” folks. They opened their new digs against a D-II “powerhouse” and it didn’t quite work out for them. :lol:

USD’s schedule is full for 2010. The only other “regional” FCS opponents open are CP and SUU on 10/16. I don’t see a CP game happening and an SUU game is probably even less likely. SUU has a pass heavy spread offense that is similar to much of the Big Sky offenses the Hornets see. I think that would favor them being scheduled as the defense wouldn’t have to spend a week learning to defend the triple option; which they proved they couldn’t do last year. The other question would be if either team would want to come to Sac as the Hornets need a 5th home game. I just noticed that SUU already has to travel to “the farm extension” next season; I doubt they would want to travel to NorCal twice in one year.

I would rather play at U$C or Notre Dame with no guarantee than play SUU at EITHER place. They can't even keep a 4-6 team from winning a conference title....

Cal Poly is still looking for two games and only one needs to be a home game so I would bet they would be interested in playing at Sac for a small check or on the front end of a home and home.
