2010 Schedule

Well, it's out.

Four home games in Hillsboro.

First game not until October.

And to think that hardly any students show up to games not far from campus...no one is going to want to drive clear out to Hillsboro! It'll be a crappy year for student attendance.

Students, at least half of whom don't have cars, probably won't bother. But come on! It's just down Sunset! You suffer from the Multnomah county/downtown Portland point of view.

I would like to see a 7-4 record with this schedule. I think we have the athletes to do it, and I'm building hope in Burton and the incoming staff...a lot of new combers last year saw significant PT, a much needed 4-3 defense and ball control (TOP) offense gives the D rest they need. Go Viks!

I'm curious as to how you get a 7-4 from that schedule.

Not if you start out 0-3, which is possible. But say we take Davis, that means we only lose twice in Conference, which is HIGHLY unlikely. I'd be happy with 4-7. Everything is going to be tested this coming year; everything is new. Including a running Hubel.

I'd been optimistic until I saw that schedule. I say 3-8. I think we beat Idaho State and Eastern Washington at home, then win either the Sac St. or UNC game.

This sucks, but before everyone gets all negative about this season and Hillsboro, remember that we're getting a hugely upgraded PGE Park out of it. This is worth it!

It'll be hard getting all negative but I will try to move on. But before I do, I have to say that being forced out of PGE Park this season is a huge disappointment. I get the feeling that our AD Torre Chisholm didn't put up much of a fight to keep the football team at PGE this year. I think he just caved. Since we are forced into playing in a high school stadium, did Chisolm negotiate anything out of it? Like making the Timbers or the City pay for rent at Hillsboro? Getting a special rent deal on the upgraded PGE? I don't think he did. He probably just rolled up into a little ball and whimpered to himself.

These are valid questions. I hope Torre did get some sort of concession, but I'd be surprised if that was the case. Most likely, he asked and the City (along with Paulson) said, "You're getting a big time upgrade to your football stadium and you don't have to pay a dime for it." PSU just doesn't have any leverage in this situation.

Good point on the leverage that we don't have. Other than a letter from the football staff and our AD showing up for a public event, we haven't exactly brought a lot to the table with regards to the stadium renovation. Not sure what we're going to pay in rent out in Hillsboro this season, but with just four games, and two payday games, it's pretty evident that the AD just said that we need to get what we can out of this season with regards to finances. The UO / ASU games will probably yield about 600k-700k before expenses, and we lost money on pretty much every home game last year. I guess it's making the most of a bad situation, but I really feel for Burton who has to start his PSU career with this.

Hillsboro does bring back some memories. I was selected at halftime to throw a ball through a board with a hole in it for some promotion that Dave Shore (former radio guy at The Fan) was doing. Two out of three ain't bad. Hey, that could work in the Run and Shoot. ;-)

Simply, liking to see it happen...Montana loses some key players and a great HC making that game interesting at Home this year. Davis and Sac with key losses as well. Our 2-9 record could have easily been 5-6 with should've been wins over good teams like Weber. I think JG managed two great recruiting years and with all the PT these (kids) got, should make for some improvement this year. 2 wins more of what could've been? Some great Burton pick-ups including a new improved coaching staff with something to prove. Losses to O, EW, ASU, and one of the M's. :D

I wonder if Oregon will have enough players left in their program to field a team when we play them in the fall.

:-p

Funny you mention this, because my fear has actually been that some of these guys would transfer to PSU and bring some bad publicity with them.

Just a couple notes...

- The Timbers do have a schedule that runs to the first weekend of October, BUT the last home game is September 2. Also note that the Beavers' last series in PGE Park runs September 3-6. After this, they're apparently rushing right in. With the improvements at Hillsboro, it's a fair bet that any Timbers playoff games will be played there. In the unlikely event that the Beavers make the PCL playoffs, I haven't a clue what happens.

- The average attendance in Hillsboro 2000 was only about 500 less than it was for the first year of PGE Park. There are times when I wonder if city=basketball and suburbs=football.

If we had the alumni support of U of O, I have no doubt that we'd have a football stadium somewhere out in the westside suurbs. But then, we'd also have a new basketball court too.

Another one....Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who helped lead the Ducks to the Pac-10 Conference title and a Rose Bowl berth last season, faces a burglary charge in connection with a theft at a campus fraternity house in late January.-AP

Everything looks good so far...but, if this team is going to finish as I predicted and hoped, changes will be required. JG had CM right, Fumble record? Too fragile vs D1 backers. The turnovers at MS killed us. WG not completely healthy and looks a bit slow, but can pound the ball at times. I hoped Hubel would've been back by now, but believe incorporating Bowen can make a difference with his speed and strength. This kid should not be sitting period. We will soon see how coaches utilize the experienced players..Fry? Fry?! Get these kids the ROCK!!!

Chances are you will not be seeing Bowen carry the ball soon. He fractured his tibia plateau the 3rd day of camp back in august. Most likely the reason he didn't look as sharp as Cory or Griffen in camp, he wasn't on the field. Apparently there has been improvement but it would be a stretch to see him run with ball this week. The treatment for a tibia plateau fracture is 3 months off the leg. Obviuosly he has not been off the leg.

Bowen and Fry are both injured right now. Bowen hurt his arm at practice on Wednesday, not sure exactly what it is, but he has a heavy cast on it. Fry hurt his hand about a week ago he's supposed to be out about three more weeks. Also Sisler's out for this week's game recovering from a concussion, he should be back next week.
