W 10/30 @ Portland State 34-21
W 11/13 vs. Southern Utah 28-24
W 11/20 vs. Idaho State 56-10

9-2, but in all likelihood we'll drop one we shouldn't and go 8-3 with 7 DI wins and make the playoffs again.

We'll drop ones to Nevada, MSU, and I think either NAU or Sac. Remember Sac always shows up when they play us at home for some reason, but we always seem to drub them down there. I think we win the Montana game, but if we don't, the MSU game almost becomes a must-win. I don't think we have ever lost to both Montana schools and still made the playoffs. If we do drop both of those, a playoff spot is highly unlikely as we would have to win every game after that. Two critical games early in the season with BLM still getting his feet wet; not the most ideal situation, but we can still get it done.

8-3 good enough for me! :D

I think a loss to NAU is more likely than one to Weber. Despite Higgins returning, they've lost an awful lot of talent off of last year's team, to include their stud RB who is on mission next year. The NAU QB will be on the pre-season Payton watch-list, and they should be better all-around than they were last year. Watch out for NAU and Sac.Weber will not play as much of a factor this year, IMO.

By the look of everybodys predictions there is very little respect for the defense ! Lets hope they come into fall, healthy and with a chip on their shoulders because thats a lot points to give up hoping your offense can do the same. There may be a few questions in the secondary which is where we got burned last year, however, with more experience on the d-line and more pressure on the pass happy Q B's in the BSC,we may be surprised has to how they respond this year ! GO EAGS!!!!!!! 9-2 stay healthy and WHO KNOWS ?

The defense will *have* to play better than it did last season for us to get a similar result, because our offense *may* not be as productive. I do think they will be better, especially along the line and in the LB positions, but my question is our secondary. I hate to say it, but our secondary got absolutely shredded last year in a bunch of games, especially towards the end of the season. The only reason we won the NAU and SUU games was because of Nichols, Jones, Overbay, et. al. Time for the defense to pick it up and win more games for us like they did against Northern Colorado.

EWURANGER, Exactaly, we agree on the obvious, the secondary will be the answer to our W-L record this year! What we don't know IS, Both Johnson Bros in the game at the same time, Williams pressure of the edge, and after what we witnessed in spring ball a VERY hungry ex-QB with something to prove at safety ! "O" how sweet it would be if the guys could come together and be a force on Defense ! What If ? GO EAGS!!!!

8-3 sounds good to me. Don't think we can hold Nevada down to fewer points than we can score. Wouldn't surprise me to lose two more games to teams we should have won. In the BSC that means possibly one team at home and one team on the road. We seem to play better vs top competition and shaky vs lower opponents. As always the "D" concerns me...when was the last time we #1 in the BSC in total "D"?

I'd have to look, but I am thinking 1997. It's certainly been a while.

Being close to these guys, 8 and 3 won't cut it ! They will be in Cheney all summer and come fall we can begin to make some predictions that have some revelancy !! I personally think that this group of men will settle for nothing but success and dont be surprised if they run the table !!! GOI EAGS !!!!

flyingnail:

The johnson boys will be phenomenal together on the field no doubt. Williams may struggle at first, but will be a force once comfortable there. The ex-QB/safety is not hungry - for that position anyhow. The kid is competitive as all getout but everything i hear is - doens't like it. That coupled with Coach B giving ALL of the remaining QB's on his roster a full ride - when he was backup last year and got nothing more this year - i'd expect to see him go.

Hope that's not the case. He's a great athlete and would contribute in any position that he played.

8-3 seems reasonable to me, but 6-5 and 10-1 are certainly in play as well. Lots of question marks. Young receivers and a new QB, can Taiwan stay healthy, the return of Zach Johnson, injuries and depth. Year in and year out, the top FCS teams all have top 20 defenses. Until we get to that point, I'm not holding my breath about anything more than 8-3.

Agree totally,no questions putting up the points, BUT alot of questions stopping the points

I really don't like the way our schedule looks. It isn't all that reasonable to expect to beat Nevada, and assuming we don't, we desperately need to win 3 of our next 4 to have a legitimate shot of making the playoffs. The way we've played poorly at the beginning of every season lately, being forced into tough games isn't something that we ougt be doing. Montana State and Weber State on the road are going to be critical... as will Montana at home. Shoot, I'm not even rock-solid on that Central game.

I have a feeling we're headed towards a 2-3 start and needing to win 6 in a row to make the playoffs. Since 1997, we haven't made ther playoffs without requiring at least a 4-game stretch to close our the season. i hate having to hold my breath throughout November. I'd really like to have some wiggle room coming down the stretch this year.

Our defense waas outright awful coming down the stretch last year. Had it not been for some tunrovers, we don't even make the playoffs. I'd settle for 8-3 if it was offered right now, but you're right, a LOT is going to hinge on this defense keeping teams to 24 points or less.

Yep. Our very large positive TO margin (can't remember what it was) was a huge reason we won games down the stretch last year. While our D gave up tons of yards last year in a lot of games, we sure did manage to get a lot of picks and fumble recoveries. We will need to be able to keep hold of the ball and create a large number TO's again this year.

I really think BLM's experience will help us get that good start we need. Granted that experience isn't at the FCS level, but his reads should feel that much quicker dropping down a level. Sufficed to say he certainly won't be intimidated going into Reno or by noise in Woodward from the traveling horde of Griz junkies.
