2011-12 Schedule Posted

I wanted to get my season predictions up before tip-off of the exhibition tonight. I’m still on the fence of whether or not to throw together a season preview before the regular season tips-off next week…

2011/12 Predictions
  • • 11/2/11 – Simpson – This is an exhibition and obviously it won’t count towards the record, but the Hornets will win.
    • 11/11/11 – vs. Menlo - Hornets should dominate this game against a non-D1 opponent. Record: 1-0, (0-0)
    • 11/13/11 – vs. Central Arkansas – UCA graduated 3 of its top 5 leading scorers. Hopefully the Hornets can capitalize on the home court advantage and UCA’s inexperience. Record: 2-0, (0-0)
    • 11/17/11 - @ Washington State – Hornets lose big in this money game. Record: 2-1, (0-0)
    • 11/22/11 – @ “the farm extension” – Hornets win. They probably won’t but I’m going homer in this one. Record: 3-1, (0-0)
    • 11/26/11 – vs. McNeese State – McNeese lost 4 of its 5 leading scorers from a season ago. Coupled with home court advantage I’m hoping for a win. Record: 4-1, (0-0)
    • 11/30/11 - @ Cal Poly –Hornets lose. CP had a respectable season last year and they return a lot. Record: 4-2, (0-0)
    • 12/2/11 - @ Oklahoma – Hornets lose big in this money game. Record: 4-3, (0-0)
    • 12/7/11 - @ CSU Bakersfield – Tough one here. Bako lost 2 of their top 3 leading scorers but return some experience. I’ll go with a homer pick. Record: 5-3, (0-0)
    • 12/10/11 – vs. Cal Maritime - Hornets should dominate this game against a non-D1 opponent. Record: 6-3, (0-0)
    • 12/18/11 – vs. North Dakota – Hornets lose, UND returns everyone from last year. Record: 6-4, (0-0)
    • 12/22/11 – vs. Southeastern Missouri – Hornets lose; SEMO returns 4 of their top 5 scorers. Record: 6-5, (0-0)
    • 12/29/11 - @ NAU – NAU lost a lot. They lost 3 of their top 4 scorers but return one of their athletic guards. I’m going with a split series with the home teams winning. Record: 6-6, (0-1)
    • 12/31/11 - @ WSU – WSU returns 3 of their top 5 scorers as well as shoe-in BSC POTY Damian Lillard. Hornets are swept in this series. Record: 6-7, (0-2)
    • 1/7/12 - vs. UNC – UNC lost their top 3 scorers but do return some players. Hornets split this series with the home teams winning. Record: 7-7, (1-2)
    • 1/12/12 – vs. EWU – EWU is in complete rebuild mode with a new coach as well as the big loss of Dean who transferred out. Hornets need to sweep this struggling EWU program. Record: 8-7, (2-2)
    • 1/14/12 – vs. ISU – ISU lost 4 of their top 5 scorers. Hornets need to sweep fellow cellar dweller ISU. Record: 9-7, (3-2)
    • 1/19/12 – @ MSU – MSU lost 3 of their top 5 scorers including Howard and Rush who combined for nearly 30 ppg. Hornets need to split the series with the home team winning. Record: 9-8, (3-3)
    • 1/21/12 – @ UM – UM returns everyone except for their man-child center Qvale. UM should be in the running for the BSC title which includes a sweep of the Hornets. Record: 9-9, (3-4)
    • 1/26/12 – vs. WSU – Hornets lose. Record: 9-10, (3-5)
    • 1/28/12 – vs. NAU – Hornets win. Record: 10-10, (4-5)
    • 2/2/12 – @ UNC – Hornets lose. Record: 10-11, (4-6)
    • 2/4/12 - @ EWU – Hornets win. Record: 11-11, (5-6)
    • 2/9/12 – vs. MSU – Hornets win. Record: 12-12, (6-6)
    • 2/11/12 – vs. UM – Hornets lose. Record: 12-13, (6-7)
    • 2/15/12 – @ PSU – PSU returns 2 of their top 3 scorers but lose most of everything else. I’m going with a series split with the home team winning. Record: 12-14, (6-8)
    • 2/18/12 - ESPN BracketBuster- Homering a win here. Record: 13-14, (6-8)
    • 2/23/12 – vs. PSU – Hornets win. Record: 14-14, (6-9)
    • 2/25/12 – @ ISU – Hornets win. Record: 15-14, (7-9)
So all in all I have the Hornets going 15-14 and 7-9 in the Big Sky. This doesn’t seem realistic looking back on it now as the Hornets don’t return a PG and they lose an athletic C. However at this point I’m too lazy and unenthused to change my predictions so I’ll keep my bar set high. The BSC seems like it is on the verge of having a down year as a lot of talent graduated last season and it looks like it will be between WSU & UM for the BSC crown. Hopefully Katz can finally prove he belongs in the D-1 ranks and land some more wins as the Hornets do have a favorable OOC schedule that includes teams of similar struggles with the Hornets getting most of those matchups at the Nest. I am hoping Katz and this team can come somewhere in the neighborhood of 500...but I'm not holding my breath.

SD: Is Wazzu better than Oregon State? I thought we beat the Beavers last year. (And, yes, I know last year is last year, but there's got to be SOME continuity, right?)

Washington St was picked to finish 10th (tied w/Colorado) in the pre-season media poll; Oregon St was 8th. Last year tho, WSU made it to the semi's of the NIT. In 2006-07, WSU was slated to finish last in the Pac-10, but finished 2nd and made it to the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney; so much for pre season media polls!

5 for 6. I'd be 6 for 6 if we didn't have a miraculous comeback against UC Dungpile... lol

are you a hornet fan or hater? because despite the fact that they've lost some games, fans support their team, not hate them and the coach for every loss and take pride in how hard these teams are playing. it seems like people have nothing to say when the hornets win (no posts about the win today) but the second they lose they get ripped to shreds.

A D3 team isn't a win. It's a scrimmage. And this isn't the first time we have played a sub D1 program this year. All the hornets have to do is have a winning season against D1 competition and the slap happy feeling will return. I can't even remember the last time the program had an over .500 season.

A win is a win and fans aren't supposed to rip their teams apart. Just saying. We're supposed to support our team and coach.

What's the big deal? This is nothing new. College teams, pick a sport, play cupcakes.
Duke played a team earlier this year called Presbyterian, (Duke won by 40).
Syracuse, who is notorious for this, played Fordham, Manhattan, Albany and Colgate their first four games this year, all at home and smashed all four.
Kentucky played Marist and Radford.
Colorado played somebody called Ft. Lewis, (major powerhouse).

I could go on and on. Pick a team, any team, they all do it.

We all would love for the Hornets to perform better on the court. I see an improved team on the floor, not sure how it's going to turn out by year end, but I am hoping and rooting for them.

This board is used to point out the good and bad that goes on in the Hornet sports world. One can still be a fan and supporter and still voice concerns and criticism about what is seen on the field/court.

Also feel free to start a game thread or post about whatever you think is needed. The more input and views of other Hornet fans the better.

Not too confident with my SEMO pick. They are they type of athletic team that seems to give us problems...

I just missed on the SEMO pick. That's what I deserve for showing faith! Hit on the NAU pick however...

10 for 12 thus far.
