* Conference Games

That is the best schedule we have had in a long time. I would really like to make at least one trip to California to watch the cats. This is shaping up to be a banner year for WSU hoops.

Good looking schedule!! WTF about the St. Mary's tournament. I was planning on heading out to Cali for that one, but its on a Sun and Mon. Who does that?

Positives:
• Nov 15-Dec 16: A solid D1 schedule against schools with name recognition and/or strong conference affiliation.
• Saturday home games against known schools in SJSU and SUU.
• New Year’s Eve game provides a fun promotional opportunity and could be parlayed with other local activities.
• St. Mary’s tournament provides a second Bracket Buster game and a great opportunity to help our RPI and Tourney seed
• Game at Cal and St. Mary’s provide a good opportunity for Lillard’s friends, family, and followers to watch him play. Not a bad message to send to other recruits in the area as well.
Negatives:
• Home games vs. Utes and Aggies on weeknights.
• Last three conference games on the road against teams most likely to challenge Weber for regular season championship.
• Sources indicate the following schools are/were looking for opponents on 11/11 and/or 12/19; the same night we host non d-1 schools:
o George Mason
o Colorado State
o Bowling Green
o Western Michigan
o Central Florida
o Georgia
o Texas Tech

11/11 is an exhibition game and too soon to throw in a tough road game. 12/19 is coming right out of finals and nobody schedules anything but patsies for that situation. I'm sure that everyone would have wanted a Saturday game for TDS and TUN. It just didn't work out that way. I love this schedule. Its 100 time better than last year. :notworthy: :notworthy:

Looks like Jet Blue to Long Beach, Long Beach to San Francisco may be in order! Unless SW is cheaper. :) I saw a program on St. Mary's Monday night on ESPN E:60, looks like a nice place to visit!

I agree this schedule is much better, and there are plenty of reasons to be excited. However, 11/11 is not an exhibition, and this team is experienced and talented enough to be challenged with a tough road game early. Michigan State is playing UNC (what do these schools have in common?) on 11/11, and plenty of other top programs have scheduled difficult games early. Finals end on 12/8. This team is too good to need 11 days to recover---plus how do we explain games vs. SUU and at Cal in between finals and the Non D 1 game on the 19th? Yes this schedule is solid. But this is a special team coming back, and they deserved a chance to get two RPI top 50 wins in the non conference. That is how Creighton, George Mason, Northern Iowa, St. Mary's, and other Mid-majors have separated themselves. It's how teams get better seeds, and recognition. The excuse of "too early" and "too close to finals" make sense for Idaho State--not this team.

I am pleased with the schedule for 11-12. It is difficult to line up schools that are perceived to be higher level if you have a chance of knocking them off, as well as there are smaller schools in D2 that would love to have a crack at a D1 school to add credibility to their program if they get a win.
If you have not done so, you should check out the basketball travelers web site, there is a portal where schools post their need for games.....example, St. Marys is looking for a 4th team for their Shamrock Classic that Weber is playing in.

And of course, there are economics involved, how much can one school pay to get another to play at their place. My guess is that many games happen because coaches know each other from past working together or associations.

Im not a big fan of the lower level games, but only one of the teams you listed isven somewhat close to Weber State. And how long has it been since any of the Mtn. West or WAC schools other than USU, BYU and Utah came and played at the Dee? Im tired of only playing @ Mtn.West schools, they NEVER come to the Dee, and the only WAC teams that EVEN PLAY US are the Faggies.

Two cupcakes arent gonna hurt and could be good warmups, especially leading up to our USU and Utah games

I think our schedule looks great. Weber isn't going to get the big name schools to come to our place. Have any of you looked at Utah's schedule? Laughable at best.

Why aren't the Utes playing the Aggies?

I believe its because USU was supposed to play in Salt Lake City this year, but the Utes said they wont be traveling to Logan next year, so the Aggies said they wouldnt be traveling to Salt Lake this year

Can somebody tell me what Montana has that we dont?

They hosted the Beavers of Oregon State last year, this year they get NEVADA at home.

Im REALLY beginning to believe that FEAR is the reason teams wont come here, not an attack against Montana, but Weber's hoops program is twice what Montana's is, so why cant we get these teams at home?

Its easy, its FEAR to lose, plain and simple.

Question for you hardcore fans. Does anybody know the name of the song WSU usually plays right before tipoff that gets the crowd all pumped? The one where everyone claps in unison? Figured it'd be a good iPod download for exercise.

Joker and the Theif? Or Crowd Chant?

I think Joker only got pulled out and played at the end of 4-5 games, when it was close.
Not sure if Crowd Chant was played at the beginning of games last season.....I don't think it was?

Looks like a schedule of a team that expects to be competing for the Big Sky title. Home games against Utah and Utah St (and the Bracket Buster), and road games against California (who will be a fringe tourney team), BYU, and the St. Mary's Classic... nice schedule. Some very intriguing matchups for sure!
