2011 Recruiting

EWU annual cost of attendance = $16,443 for in state vs. Wyoming annual cost of attendance = $25,904 for out of state

Wyoming is in the middle of nowhere, whereas Cheney is close to Spokane and CdA. EWU wins national titles and league championships, Wyoming gets to enjoy the glass ceiling of mid-level bowls every once in a while. Your call.

How many friends and family will make it to games in Cheney? We play the Huskies in Seattle in 2013.
Frankly, I could not imagine why anyone other than a Wyo resident would make the wrong choice here.

I want to say I am new to this blogging thing, so if I say something out of line just step on me and let me know…

Clawman, nice cost analysis break down…and Screaming Eagle174, I want to thank you for the comment on his play. I too am not sure why he didn’t get the full offer. I’m saying this not just as a dad tooting his horn, but Brandon is definitely one of the top Linebackers in Washington. I think the issue may have come two-fold; one his school had an abysmal 2-10 record which doesn’t draw scouts, and two his school ran a 3-5 & 4-4 defense which as one friend put it makes Brandon look all willy nilly on the field even though had 122 tackles and carried the defense. When we visited Idaho, DC Coach Criner was foaming at the mouth over him and said he liked his speed, size 215lbs, and loved him…Criner was never heard from again? Honestly we were baffled by the whole recruiting process and wonder if we did something wrong! :?

Enough said I can tell I’m starting to sound like a whiner…

Thanks again for all the info, I will have Brandon call Coach Graham and get more info on what he needs to do next… :thumb:

As a current student at EWU, I can assure you that this is a great school!! This is my 3rd year living in Cheney, and 2nd year on campus. Since I moved here in 2009, I can't believe how much this University and athletics program has improved. The sky is the limit for the whole school. With plans now starting to roll on stadium expansion and the great recruits we are picking up, there is no doubt we'll be competing for conference titles every year...with some National Titles mixed in! 8-)

EWU's student enrollment is up over 12.000 now, but the classroom sizes are still kept to a great number. The city of Cheney is located in the perfect location. Close to Spokane but also close to the country. It really seems to surfice for any person no matter what living style they prefer (city or country). I'm originally from the Puyallup area and also lived in Griz country for 5 years, but my decision to attend EWU is by far one of the more satisfying choices of my life to this point. I'm very proud to be an Eagle!! :thumb:

To add to clawmans point, I'm not sure I've ever seen Wyoming on TV in Western Washington.

The Big Sky's new contract with Root Sports giving them the 12:30 spot on Saturday afternoon, with some Saturdays hosting a Big Sky double-header, will get EWU on TV in Western Washington a fair amount. You have to consider the size of the TV market in Western Washington, and the fact that a large percentage of Eastern Washingtons roster hails from there. Add to that all of conference games not on Root Sports being broadcast for free over the internet on Big Sky TV, and there are lots of opportunities for friends and family to watch these guys play.

I could understand the frustration there. What I would say is that if walking-on is a possibility - seriously consider it. There have been many players at EWU that were walk-ons at one point in time. Edwards was a walk-on, and is now not only a 1st-Team All-American, but one of the more elite recievers in the country, let alone the Big Sky. There have been several others that were former walk-ons that worked their way into scholarships and turned out to be big-time players. Sometimes all kids need is a chance. I'm a big fan of the walk-on program.

New Eagle kicker coming to spring camp. He will be a Jr. who has used up his soccer eligability at SFCC. Aaron Gleason kicked for U-High in Spokane.

Nice. Always good to see the locals on the roster. Hope he makes it.

Aaron Dunn, Mead High School is transferring out of WSU. I think we are pretty loaded at tight ends but not sure. Any chance he may come to Eastern? From what I read he was highly regarded coming out of HS
