2011 Signees

Per SSS, Cosentino up and quit:

Anthony Cosentino quit the Sacramento State Men’s Basketball team this week prior to the team’s exhibition against Simpson University.

The 6-foot-7 junior transfered to Sac State from Southwestern Junior College in Chula Vista, Calif.

Hornets coach Brian Katz said it came as a surprise and he was unsure of the reasons behind Cosentino’s decision.

“He never spoke with us,” Katz said after the exhibition Wednesday night.

Roommate and fellow transfer student Joe Eberhard said it was a decision Cosentino had been talking about for awhile, but also had no comment on the reasons behind Cosentino’s decision.

“I don’t really want to speak for him,” Eberhard said. “I just know it was a personal decision for him.”

And so goes another recruit brought in and on his way he goes. This is about the 6th Katz recruit to leave for one reason or another prior to graduation.

I count 11 guys that were either with the program or signed and disappeared. :ohno:

1. David Norris
2. Dani Lopez
3. Zach Nelson
4. Antoine Proctor
5. Casper Hesseldar (signed but never showed up)
6. Alpha N'Diaye
7. Stephen Calton (played for Katz at Delta)
8. AJ Kapanoske
9. Alex Ward
10. Aaron Wilson (played for Katz at Delta - was supposed to the "star" of Katz first class)
11. Now Anthony Cosentino

All this from a coach that is 18-69 (.207) and 8-40 (.167) in the BSC. I know I've had harsh words for Sperbeck but that is out of frustration built on expectations of playoffs. But as a former Hornet basketball player, THIS IS EMBARRASSING!!

I'm hoping an email from Wanless would state that Katz needs to win and win now - or else.

And, Katz's biggest win is attributable to Jerome Jenkins players... lol

I've been pretty easy on Katz, but Jenkins got the ax for much better than anything Katz has ever produced...

How I long for the days of 15-15 records (with 6 losses by 3 points or less; we were competitive...)!!!

What's more alarming than these numbers is Katz said he didn't know. He didn't know N'Diaye was under water either. I just don't know how you don't know you're at risk of losing your best players.

Wow that’s more than I thought left, but hey all of Katz recruits are graduating.

Katz’ contract is good for a handful more years so I wouldn’t expect a coaching change anytime soon. Good on Wanless for issuing a 5 year extension following Katz’ 7 win season in his second year. :ohno:

All of those players mentioned, with the exception of N'Diaye, were just terrible when it came to putting in an effort to play ball. A coach can only do so much. Its still the players responsibility. They are now adults when they get to college. The days of being coddled by mommy and daddy are now over. I hope its a lesson these "kids" will eventually learn. Sorry OH, but I have more respect for those 18-19 year olds who enlist and put their ass on the line everyday for this country than some of these guys.

SHA, I completely agree with you - but what causes concern is that several of these guys played for Katz at Delta. What changed?

Probably academics. Lets face it, even the CCC's dont really hold a candle to the CSU's. And, its there is a difference between JC ball and 4-year ball.
