I am saying 9 - 10 wins this season...I am a huge Kyle Padron fan, having watched him in college. He has the best WR"s in the FCS. Once he learns the system, watch out. He will probably not match Bo Levi's numbers but should lead us to the promise land of a return trip to Frisco. This year is his only chance to achieve it, with the outstanding WR's that we have.

Hey Wineguy, good to see you back. I read on the SMU fansite that one of the raps on Padron was he took too long to make passing decisions in the June Jones offense. Do you feel that is true?
What are his reakness' that he lost his job?

I think it all hinges on our running game... If we have a solid one I'm guessing two losses (including ending our dry spell of IA wins) but of we dont... I'm gonna say 6-5 to be generous. IMO our passing game last year was about as good as it gets for IAA (and many IA teams would kill to have had our pass game) but we didn't have the run game to support it.

We didn't have the D to stop the run. Allowing too many points was our problem. Even with no running game, we still put up a lot of points through the air. Had we been able to stop the run, we would've beaten both UM and PSU and in the playoffs.

True, we did allow a ton of points last year. But I think our offense also put the defense in some pretty bad spots last year. Ditto for the year before until they got clicking but we also had a bend not break defense to keep points off.

And I bet we have some solid guys at WR that just gotten the chance to shine yet...

Granted the O may have put the D in tough spots sometimes, but how different is that with any offense? Everyone knew it would be tough to fill the shoes of JC Sherritt, and when Johnson went down that added to the loss of experience. One guy we missed more that we can measure is Tyler Jolley. IMO his leadership kept Renard on task and solidified the D-line.
Who are our "lead by example" guys now?

I didn't see weakness and think he just went through a slight slump and started doubting himself. I always thought he was a better QB than McDermott. With our recievers and if we improve our running game, this is going to be an offense that is going to be hard to stop.
He needs a little quicker release but I'm sure Coach B will handle that before the season starts. He throws a beautiful ball and with improved confidence, watch out. If he stays healthy, I predict a Big Sky Championship and trust me, Kyle will do everything possible to get to Frisco to play in front of his hometown. All you Eagle fans will love Kyle, so welcome him with open arms, like you did Bo; he's a special kid and talent.

Good question. I wonder who the defensive leaders will be this season. So many guys to choose from. One thing is for certain, if that D-line stays healthy, they are going to be VERY formidable this season. So much depth there, especially at DE.

LB's will be good. Big ? in my mind is the secondary, where we have taken some hits.

I don't get the SUU thing. Despite the fact that they'll have a great QB, why would they be favored to beat us? As good as Sorensen is, I think they've lost most of their good receivers and our D-line should make sure he doesn't get a lot of time in the pocket. I think we will beat SUU, the games that scare me are Montana, MSU, Poly, PSU, and Weber.

I'm with you Ranger, I do not know what everyone sees in SUU other than Sorenson and 1 QB does not a team make. A few key positions are proven players, they return 9 starters total. We don't play them until the 7th game of the season, so we should be playing team ball by then.
As far as the start of our season I think A key will be how quick we name a starting QB and how quick he jells with the rest of the offense. A basic game plan, do it well and stick to it, will be helpful to that end.
It is good that we have a bye week before the trip to Weber.
I'm pretty optimistic that we can end the season with 1 maybe 2 losses and get a top 4 seed going into the playoffs.
