2012 Recruit List

I spoke to a parent of one of Folsom's starting Varsity players, who also has connections to the coaching staff, and he claims that McMurtrey did give a verbal to Cal Poly rather than Sac State. Oh well.

Honestly, I usually tend to put more stock into Rivals than ESPN when it comes to recruiting info and this further fortifies doing so.

How well is SoCal recruited? If anyone has any contact w/ hornet coaches or recruiters, I suggest bringing up the oldest game played between two high schools in L.A, The Classic; Roosevelt H.S. Roughriders vs. Garfield H.S. Bulldogs. That game will be played Nov 4. I think some very decent talent for the hornet football team can be scouted at that game. Those kids tend to be overlooked by big time programs (USC & UCLA) b/c those schools are the "Mexican" schools. I do think that some great talent for the hornet team can be found there. Also, Bell H.S. (yeah, the one from the city of corrupt council members) should be looked at. Iowa recruited a couple of players from there that paid off for them. Edgar Cervantes and Ramon Ochoa from Bell H.S. were both the Hawkeye Orange Bowl team. Also Salesian's, Catholic school in East L.A., and Cathedral football teams should be scouted.

If this program refuses or is unable to recruit out-of-state talent due to cost, they really should be scouting every inch of the Golden State. As large as this State is and as many HS programs as there are, lots of good talent always gets overlooked. While it may be hard to keep many of the local area kids simply because they want to leave home and get out of the area, you'd think that may sometimes work in reverse when it comes to kids from SoCal and the upper reaches of the State.

SoCal is recruited rather decently, just look at the roster we have a few kids from that area, but just like anything else i think they tend to be on the smaller side since they were overlooked by the school down there

K Edgar Castaneda San Francisco, California City College of San Francisco 5'7" 165
Interest in Sacramento State (medium)
========================================

I saw this guy live on saturday vs Butte. He warmed up well with some impressive kicks but he has poor mechanics which sure enough came back to haunt him. He had 3 low PATs blocked and he missed one short FG. He also made a few kicks but his KOs were ordinary and he doesn't look very athletic.

Diniz is bigger, stronger and has better mechanics than Castaneda. Plus our kicker has already gained valuable experience at the D-1AA level which will only add to his success rate.

Go Hornets!

well has you can tell i did not miss any field goals that game and i did not have 3 blocked pats and i didn't do any kickoffs that game so obviously u wernt paying attention to the game

Hey CityKicker40,
No offense kid, I think you are a good kicker with a great future. You're strong and accurate and I realized later it was the other guy (the punter) who was kicking off. My post was meant to defend our kicker Diniz who was being attacked by some people on this board. I didn't mean to hack on you. My bad sorry!

But I was at the Butte/CCSF game so....... whos PAT's did we block?

Sac State offers Costa Mesa RB Mario Smith.

From the Orange County Register Recruiting Blog:

Two of Orange County’s top running backs — Vincent ” Bug” Rivera of Cypress and Mario Smith of Costa Mesa — have landed offers from FCS schools.

Rivera (5-7, 185) has been offered by University of San Diego, Centurions coach Mike Cobleigh said. The coach added that Rivera will take a recruiting trip to Wofford in South Carolina, which made the FCS playoffs.

Smith (5-11, 185) has been offered by Sacramento State, Mustangs coach Wally Grant reports.

Last season, Sacramento State signed Segerstrom running back Gary Ferman.

In the mix...
It is my understanding that QB Tommy Edwards has transferred to Occidential and RB Jordan Montananae (sp?) has decided not to play football and will not return.

If Edwards did transfer he will do good at the D3 school. And another reason we need to recruit RB's.

I agree. I’m a little surprised Mantanane made that decision. I would have thought the chance of earning considerable playing time if not the starting role coming off of a redshirt year would be motivation enough for busting ass in the offseason and making some noise on the field.

college football isnt for everybody. In my opinion it makes more demands of a person then any other sport.

I heard yesterday was JC LOI day. Is that true and did we land anyone? I haven’t seen anything about it yet. :?:

Looks like LA Tech may have swooped in and stole RCC WR commit Jon Greenwalt. I hope that the announcement is wrong.

Also announced at the signing party was that twins wide receiver Jon Greenwalt (Elsinore/Lake Elsinore, CA) and offensive lineman Richard Greenwalt have accepted offers at Louisiana Tech University, which will play TCU in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego tonight.

A little undersized, but a giant compared to Monson. Kid is a two-start CB/RB and could contribute right away. He would be a great pick up.
